This Monday, LP Maxa is popping in to discuss her musical inspiration for her rockstar romance, Play Nice!
So for Play Nice I had a lot of different songs going through my head. Obviously there were a few Van Morrison songs, because he is Lexi’s favorite. Into the Mystic is one of his popular well known songs, it’s one of my all-time favorites. The other song, He Ain’t Give You None, is a little less known but I just love the raw sound of his voice in it. There is just something about Van Morrison that soothes my soul. He instantly calms me. And I knew I had to pay him some respect in the book.
Into the Mystic — Van Morrison
He Ain’t Give You None – Van Morrison
Right before I decided to start writing The Devil’s Share series, I read Rocks by Joe Perry. I’ve always been an Aerosmith fan, I get it from my dad. So I have to give them a little love as well.
Ragdoll – Aerosmith
The love between Amy and her brother Luke in this book is actually based on real people. My friend Angela has this amazingly talented little brother who is in a band called Dear You. This is my favorite song by them.
Have You Already Forgotten My Name – Dear You
I love the sound of this band, all their songs. It’s almost like, collectively they are an old soul. This music makes my happy.
S.O.B. – Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats
And last…If I could compare The Devil’s Share to any current rock band it would be Rise Against. I love how they can sound really chill and then in the next song really grungy.
Audience of One – Rise Against
My play list is a little all over the place, but that’s how I listen to music. I love it all, and I just have one giant shuffle going on at all times. The old deserves respect and the new deserves a chance. That’s my music philosophy.
Play Nice has been out for a few months now and I know readers are ready for Smith’s story. Play Dirty, book two, will hopefully be out in a couple of months. It’s completed and is with my editor, so fingers crossed, it will be out before the end of the year. I’m on twitter @LPMaxa and Facebook under L.P. Maxa, and I’ve listed my website as well.
