Weekly Word Count #154

Word Count: 11,640

What story I’m currently working on:

Finished Taking Root at 60k last Sunday, so woop woop! I’ve got to admit though, I’m so not ready to leave that universe. I want to dive in and write all of the sibling stories–all the Greek myth parallels are making things clarify in my head so well. However, duty calls, and I need to spread the love to other series as well. I’m also now at 4k with Hypnotizing Beat! That’s going to be the next adventure, diving back into the Discord’s Desire universe that I loved so much. I’m really excited that Captivating Melody will be out in the world this year.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Still living that waiting life. I’ve got multiple submissions out for Philly Coven Chronicles, Tribal Spirits, and Cupid’s Cafe, so it’s just a matter of refreshing my inbox every two point five seconds. Colors of a Soul has been sent off to the editor, and I started doing the long, long, long rewrite of Musketeer Pirates. It’s intimidating, but I’m going to work on it as I have time. If you’re looking forward to Colors of a Soul, pre-order Legends of the Veil!

Teaser of the week:

“A thousand curses on girls with smart mouths and access to firepower.”

Line of the week:

A couple blocks down, she spotted the point of fascination. Even in Vegas, the group of three gorgeous guys in leather jackets and the tough-ass chick in ripped jeans was an attention draw. Not like the crew of Discord’s Desire could go anywhere without drawing attention—their charisma was off the charts. Danica wasn’t ready for the full reunion tour yet.

She reached out to press a business card into his palm. “Looks like Kieran Blackmore and the Sunshine Gang are paying a visit. Give me a ring sometime and we’ll chat.”

Throwback Thursday: Soul Solution

BeyondFairytales_SoulSolution

For Erik Anderson, the Copenhagen line is his curse. He takes the train every night en route to collect souls. Like any lovelorn fool, he bargained his own long ago, and now pays the price—a lifetime of loneliness as a grim reaper. Stay distant—that’s been his mantra and what keeps him sane.

Until Mina Castner drops into his life like a whirlwind, one spilled drink leading to staying up until dawn with the woman. He believed one night couldn’t hurt, but he sorely underestimated her determination. Every encounter between them is reprieve from the guilt of reaping souls every night, but it can’t last. Even if she sparks long buried feelings, and even if her sheer presence intoxicates him, he can’t let this continue. For humans, his touch is poison, and if he slips up, it could cost her life.

What story I’m currently working on:

Closing in on the end of Taking Root at 49k. It’s a wild ride, and I’m down to the final chapters, so I’m going to guarantee that I’ll be finished this book by the next update! I love the race to the end once you get to a certain point in a story–it’s like crack for me. Once I finish Taking Root, I’ll be switching over to Hypnotizing Beat in full force, and I started tweaking around with the playlist to get all geared up for it.

What I’m editing/marketing:

The waiting, the waiting, the WAAAAAITING. So, not only am I trying to rehome Philly Coven Chronicles and Tribal Spirits, but we’re also rehoming Cupid’s Cafe. A lot of my books are pulled at the moment and ouch, it hurts. Cross fingers and send positive vibes that I get some good news soon! I finished Colors of a Soul, the title of the fae novella for Legends of the Veil, and then I sent it off to the editor! I’m stoked to have another thing off my plate, and because of that I was able to dive back into Musketeer Pirates! EEEE! Also, not only is Gaslights and Graves out, but now Legends of the Veil is available for pre-order!

Teaser of the week:

Candace brandished a pint glass at the ready. Ale could soothe most of these ruffians, and she_d become adept at taming tempers.

Line of the week:

“Three?” he leaned forward. “Please don’t tell me you enjoyed the third Terminator movie.”

“First my electronica and now T3?” Danny splayed her hand over her chest in mock horror. “How are we together again?”

Adrian shrugged, popping a piece of General Tso’s into his mouth. “I figured you only wanted me for my body.”

Throwback Thursday: Stolen Petals

stolenpetals_600x900

One man has swiped bounties from Viola, the Brass Violet, for years. Longstanding rivals, they’ve only had brief encounters, and if she had a choice, she’d avoid him entirely. When he saunters into her bar with an offer to work together on a job, the proper response would be to shoot him down and send him back to Shantytown. However, curiosity’s a wicked beast, and Viola needs to know why, after so many years of stealing her marks, he’d approach her now.

The man is insufferable, annoyingly cavalier, and tends to stir up memories she’d rather forget–but she needs assistance on this job and he’s offering aid and blueprints which could cut their work in half.

Given the intense way he looks at her though, working together isn’t all he has in mind. Van Clef is known for his persistence and, with his charm, he wins women over effortlessly. Viola’s not so easy though–she’s wise to his tricks. But if he wants to play the game, she will gladly rise to the challenge. By the end of this bounty, she’ll be the one leaving him in the dust.

What story I’m currently working on:

Well, Taking Root is just flowing from my fingertips. I’m really adoring this book at the moment, and even more than the main characters themselves, I’m falling in love with the whole Dukas family. I really hope I get the opportunity to write their entire series. I just hit 34k, so I’m over the halfway point and heading towards a lot of fun scenes. As for Hypnotizing Beat, it’s coming more slowly, but it’s still moving along! I got to 3k and finished the first chapter, so I’m delving into Danica’s perspective next.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Shocking everyone, I’m waiting on a lot of things at the moment. Loose Id finally pulled my Philadelphia Coven Chronicles and Forged Alliances, so I’m hoping to find a home for them sooner rather than later. I sent a bunch of submissions out early in the month, so I’m crossing my fingers that responses will start arriving soon. I’m on the final edit for the fae novella for Legends of the Veil, which I’m realizing really needs a title. And if you haven’t checked out Of Tinkers and Technomancers yet, you have your chance! Gaslights and Graves went live last week!

Line of the week:

Adrian leaned back in his seat again and tossed the stack of envelopes off his lap. This talk had ripped all the scabs wide open and doused them in alcohol. And as much as his ears pounded and his chest ached like he was drowning, the first bit of cinnamon warmth whispered through his veins.

What story I’m currently working on:

This is always what happens when I find a story I jive with. I actually don’t know when I crammed all these words in, because it was a busy as hell week, but I hit 24k in Taking Root, because something is just flowing with that story. The characters jump off the page and just carry the story away with them. Soon, I’ll be at the halfway point, and I’m hoping things will keep amping up from there so I can race to the finish line of this book! And I tiptoed up to 2k with Hypnotizing Beat, a story I’m starting to wade into again and adoring the return to that snarky, fae-filled universe.

What I’m editing/marketing:

As per the usual, it’s a waiting game. I have a bunch of submissions out for A Card of Shadows, the proposal for Taking Root out, and I also started resubmitting the Philadelphia Coven Chronicles and Forged Alliances in the wake of Loose Id’s closure on Monday. I’m also putting a dent into the edits on the fae novella for Legends of the Veil, since I have an editor booked for June! In other news, the other steampunk boxset Of Tinkers and Technomancers is in, Gaslights and Graves, just went live on TUESDAY!

Line of the week:

Fuck, who didn’t own more than one mug?

Bitches in WitSec who lived by their lonesome, that’s who. Danny slammed her cupboard shut, staring at the assembly of three soup bowls, one coffee mug, and three glasses she’d rummaged up. When her last two mugs broke, she just hadn’t seen much use in replacing. After all, she was the only one ever using them.
