Beyond Fairytales Spotlight: Club Beam

Decadent Publishing’s Beyond Fairytales series takes fairytales from well known to the obscure and then cranks up the heat! The differing stories delve into many different sub-genres and styles of erotic romance, but all of them have a fairy tale feel as the authors meld the old stories into something new.

Today we’re featuring Club Beam by Erzabet Bishop

EB_BeyondFairytales_ClubBeam_LargeHiResWithLogo

Based on the fairytale:

In the Shadow World, nothing is as it seems.

Detective Sydney Marr is having a very bad day. Her boss is on the warpath, she’s being treated for a werewolf bite, and her current case has hit a dead end. When her friend Erika talks Syd into going with her to Club Beam, she jumps at the chance, even if it means spending an evening without her spell arsenal. A high-class vampire bar and fetish club, Club Beam is fantasy made real.

Club owner and Dom Gideon Raines spies the red-haired beauty and is transfixed. A fight against a skillful murderer brings war for fae and vampire alike. Sometimes when you play with monsters, the monsters play back.

Sneak Peek into Club Beam:

“Once upon a time….” Erika sang and waggled her eyebrows. “Come on, Sydney. Live a little. This club is smoking hot, and you’ll love it.”

Sydney grumbled under her breath and watched the club-goers parade past, each dressed like a fairy-tale character. The Little Mermaid trounced by in a see-through, diaphanous gown revealing too much in the way of personal attributes. Sleeping Beauty sashayed down the sidewalk with a leash around the neck of her Prince Charming. A woman in a way-too-short Red Riding Hood outfit approached. Her arm was wrapped around a seductress dressed in wolf ears, a tail, and a skimpy thong-style bikini. Red carried a basket full of what looked like pink fuzzy handcuffs and a can of whipped cream, which she swung into Syd.

“Hey!”

The red-cloaked vixen sent her a wink and traipsed on by, joined by a near-pornographic version of the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland. Any shorter and the skirt would show her naughty bits. Or maybe that was the plan.

Syd had just gotten off her day shift as a detective, and the last thing she wanted to do was be around more people. Especially people with more skin showing than on late-night cable shows. Her head hurt from the lights and the pulse of the music, and her stupid witch costume was pinching her toes. Erika’s scant fairy costume hugged all her curves, her breasts bursting from the bodice. The skirt barely covered her backside, and the strappy silver sandals showed off her silver-glitter nail polish.

The building loomed next to them. A giant warehouse-like structure, it was large enough to house all manner of mischief, and Syd was itching with the desire to get inside and find out just what was going on behind its doors. The sidewalk was flagged by trees lit up with twinkly white lights, adding an upscale ambiance to the area. What in the daylight looked like an industrial area gone to the dogs had been transformed into an attractive and well-attended venue.

She didn’t have the heart to tell Erika she’d been here once already today for the case she was working on, but the entrance had been sealed up tighter than a drum. Sydney’s recourse was to infiltrate Club Beam by night as a patron. Her sergeant, Debra, would kill her if she realized Syd had even considered going in without backup. So would her partner, James. Erika had asked her to come so she wouldn’t be alone, and, despite herself, Syd couldn’t resist. To catch a vampire, you had to go out at night, and Club Beam was the hot spot. After last month’s fuckup, she had to do this and do it right, even if it killed her. James was on medical leave, and it remained up to her to get this guy before someone else got killed or turned furry.

I will not think about becoming one of the terminally furry. It’s over. Move on. Take the pills the doctor gave you and freaking pray.

“Oh look. I think I see Snow White.” Erika stood on her tiptoes and craned her head along the huge expanse of line they still had to navigate to get inside.

Syd peered into the crowd and grimaced. Hairy legs. More makeup than a Mac commercial. “Nope. That was a guy in drag.”

Erika narrowed her eyes. “God, Syd. You’re the world’s biggest wet blanket ever.”

Sydney shifted her weight and moved another two steps toward the door as the line inched forward. “I told you, I’ve had a hard day. We had a homicide case come in, and I’ve been out beating the street. I want to go home and bury my head under my pillow. But, no. Out of the kindness of my heart, here I am standing in line at a vampire bar with a bunch of overgrown kids playing dress-up in fairy-tale fetish wear.”

Beyond Fairytales Spotlight: Rain by Taryn Kincaid

Decadent Publishing’s Beyond Fairytales series takes fairytales from well known to the obscure and then cranks up the heat! The differing stories delve into many different sub-genres and styles of erotic romance, but all of them have a fairy tale feel as the authors meld the old stories into something new.

Today we’re featuring Rain by Taryn Kincaid:

TK_BeyondFairytales_Rain_medium

Based on the fairytale: Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty in a post-apocalyptic land…

In a world gone mad, where little remains but a vast wasteland of sand, the leader of a troop of roving warriors welcomes a brave young woman into his midst.

Much as he burns for her, Major Clay Worthington swears to keep his distance from the mysterious woman, so sensitive even the stinging rain can wound her.

Rosina Brierly is besotted with the formidable soldier and will gladly trade her life for one torrid night of blissful passion in his arms.

But when sleep overcomes them, will true love prevail?

Sneak Peek into Rain:

Does the major ever feel lust? Does he covet a woman’s touch? He never gave any sign he did. Too aloof and austere, too remote from the simple emotions of mere mortal men.

He shook her again. “Wake up, princess. The rain will come soon.”

The men looked forward to the rain. They hated the relentless sun blasting down upon them, as if they thought it would incinerate what was left of the earth beneath their boots, baking the soft sand into badlands as hard as concrete. They’d strip off their T-shirts and boots, their combat fatigues, and sometimes even their camouflage boxer shorts, and dance and play, naked or nearly so, in the slanting gray soup, laughing, tossing round balls or throwing saucer-shaped plastic discs to each other.

For her, the showers had the opposite effect. The stinging rain sliced into her sensitive skin like acid, raising blisters and sores, sometimes bloodying her.

She did not know why the major called her princess. Perhaps he didn’t know either. Whatever royalty once walked the earth had long gone, fled underground or died in battle or simply disappeared. The war engulfed every human on the planet, every inch of land, and had waged so long she doubted anyone remembered anymore. Well, maybe Nicodemus. At least he sometimes hinted he did in the stories he told. And she had seen him whisper into the major’s ear, unknown things that made the major pale beneath his weathered tan.

Major Worthington did not treat her like a princess, though, except when she slumbered, when he knelt before her in her fantasy world, his head bowed, his fist over his heart, laying his sword at her feet and claiming the role of knight. Her hero. Her champion. When she awoke, he remained one of the elite warrior breed roaming the planet, bristling with weapons like the soldiers he led. He treated her as the translator she was to him, sometimes barking orders to her as if she were one of his men, only occasionally seeking her counsel.

She came fully awake as he jerked her up from the ground and yanked her toward him. The glare of the setting sun broadsided her, hurting her eyes. Why was he so insistent about the impending rain? No clouds yet darkened the sky, although the hour sped toward evening dusk now. But no hint of shadow yet blotted the horizon.

“I can smell it,” he muttered.

A String of Pearls by Hans Christian Andersen

The railroad in Denmark still extends only from Copenhagen to Korsör; it is a string of pearls. Europe has a wealth of these pearls; its most costly are named Paris, London, Vienna, Naples. And yet many a man will point out as his favorite pearl not one of these great cities but rather some little country town that is still the home of homes to him, the home of those dearest to him. Yes, often it is not a town at all, but a single homestead, a little house, hidden among green hedges, a place hardly visible as the train speeds by.

This is the fairy tale my Beyond Fairytales story was based on! I’ll be perfectly honest, the story itself is quite dull. However, it provided the images, setting, and groundwork for Soul Solution, so I was happy to take it from there and liven things up!

Soul Solution comes out July 24th! Don’t miss it!

Soul Solution’s Release Date!

BeyondFairytales_SoulSolutionFor Erik Anderson, the Copenhagen line is his curse. He takes the train every night en route to collect souls. Like any lovelorn fool, he bargained his own long ago, and now pays the price—a lifetime of loneliness as a grim reaper. Stay distant—that’s been his mantra and what keeps him sane.

Until Mina Castner drops into his life like a whirlwind, one spilled drink leading to staying up until dawn with the woman. He believed one night couldn’t hurt, but he sorely underestimated her determination. Every encounter between them is a reprieve from the guilt of reaping souls every night, but it can’t last. Even if she sparks long buried feelings, and even if her sheer presence intoxicates him, he can’t let this continue. For humans, his touch is poison, and if he slips up, it could cost her life.

Soul Solution is slated to release July 24th! Don’t miss out on one of my favorite stories yet : )

Meet the Writer Wednesday: Erzabet Bishop

It’s that time of the week again, where we get to know another awesome author! Who knows? Maybe you’ll discover some new reads along the way as well!

Today let’s welcome Erzabet Bishop!

Erzabetflowery

As authors, words are our tools, but also our inspiration. What’s your favorite quote about writing?

It has to be something that Ray Bradbury said about writing a short story a week. Sooner or later you won’t be terrible. That one has gotten me through a lot of learning curves.

Apart from quotes, what other sources do you draw inspiration from?

The will to succeed. I’ve dreamt of being a writer all my life. It takes determination and sacrifice to make it happen. I firmly believe that life is a series of choices and I choose to work toward my goal.

You’ve got quite a catalog of works–are there any characters that are your favorite? That you feel like you could write forever?

Each of the characters I write about are special in their own way. In my newest release Gideon, Sydney and Miles are very special to me. So is Debra. They are all complex characters with foibles and personalities that just beg to be expanded on. And they will be. The second fairy tale is in the works and there will be a short story released during Sci Spanks in June 2015.

If you could take a dream vacation anywhere, where would you travel?

My dream vacation is right where I am now. In front of my computer creating stories for readers to enjoy. Working full time, I have to carve time out to write and I love vacation because those weeks are mine and mine alone.

What upcoming project are you most excited for?

I have several, but the one that is begging to be finished is the second Beyond Fairytales in my Shadow World series.

When you’re not writing, what TV shows do you tune in to?

I love Hannibal and Walking Dead. Off air I got hooked on Breaking Bad.

What books are you currently reading? Any recommendations?

I just finished Sharp Objects and Dark Places by Flynn and wow! They were great. I love reading books outside of my genre and those were amazing. Her voice just takes you there. I’m starting Gone Girl tonight and can’t wait.

And my favorite question–what’s your astrological sign?

Taurus.

When you’re reading a book, are there any pet peeves that might make you put it down?

Echoes. They stand out like little red flags. If you say something once find a new way to say it next time. I find myself doing the same thing in my own writing, so I feel like I can say that. I also detest weak female characters with a passion. You have to have grit and be real at the same time.

Where can readers find you and your books?

What’s on the Horizon?

Well, let me tell you, I haven’t been slacking. I’m working hard right now on lots of new stories for folks to enjoy! While Stolen Petals hit a snag with Breathless Press closing, I’m submitting it out, so hopefully the story will hit e-shelves before the end of the year!

As far as other guaranteed stories on the way, Decadent Publishing will be releasing Soul Solution as part of their Beyond Fairytales collection. Thus far, the release date is TBA, but as soon as I find out, so will you!

However, apart from that I’m working on some fun stories. I just finished and started submitting a coming-of-age sci-fi romance short story, and I’ll be plunging into edits on my urban fantasy story revolving around hunters and fae, set in Philly.

And right at the moment I’m writing a winter fairy tale, which is turning out way creepier than anticipated.

“Lyra climbed under the blankets and slumber encroached, only the sharp prickle of surrounding ice tickling her nose, and the saccharine taste on her tongue lingering before the darkness claimed her.”

Stay tuned!

Meet the Writer Wednesday: Taryn Kincaid

Authors are hard-working folks, and each Wednesday I’m taking time to honor some of the rockstars out there in the field who are spending long hours laboring on lovely novellas and novels for your enjoyment.

Today let’s welcome Taryn Kincaid!

HER CAPTAIN

To kick off the questions, let’s start with an easy one: What’s your favorite quote about writing?

It’s from Mark Twain : “The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” ~ The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain

Every writer draws their inspiration from somewhere, so what works for you?

Used to be, I had a burning need to write, no matter what else was going on in my life, day job, personal stuff, whatever. Little fantasy scenarios danced in my head, and I put down scenes, bits of dialogue, descriptions. It started when I was 15 or 16 and had a summer job working in the DMV, THE most boring job ever. (I made check marks in a book when people wanted to come in for a written test. I don’t think they even do that anymore.) Now, I generally have no huge craving to write, except on rare occasions, usually when I want to parody something. But what I do have a burning need for is gorgeous book covers. I live to release those. But it’s tricky to do if there’s no text inside. So…

Obviously when you spend some time with a character you get familiar with them. Is there any character of yours that you feel like you could write about forever?

I always fall in love with the hero. Each book is the same. When I started my saga at the motor vehicles office, the hero was named Alexander “Lexy Ripper” Rippington. It went on and on and on and on. For years. For so many years that the infant daughter he didn’t know about was 21 years old, a journalist, and had a huge story of her own. Which also went on and on and on and on. The saga was written in longhand (many, many notebooks full) never published, never submitted, never a glimmer in anyone’s eye except mine!

Then there was Mark Warren, Viscount Webb, whose Regency tale also went on for an extraordinary amount of pages and has not been published (or submitted) to this day. But Viscount Webb formed a basis (in some aspects) for Adam Caldwell, Viscount Riverton, the hero of HEALING HEARTS, my one and only Regency. HEALING HEARTS is a novella, and I’ve been writing short ever since! Though not here on this blog, obviously! Some aspects of Viscount Webb are also present in the hero of my WIP, HER CAPTAIN, a Tempting Signs story that will release from Fated Desires’ Tempting Signs series in December, 2015.

Every author needs a break and to upload some new surroundings to the mind, so what’s your dream vacation?

Likely a beach on a secluded isle, with plenty of books on the Kindle, fruity drinks on hand, clear water and sparkling tropical stars in the night sky. Although, I wouldn’t mind going back to New Orleans a few more times! The food and scenery are remarkable!

Every author I’ve talked to always has their next project on the burner. What one are you most excited for now?

RAIN, my post-apocalyptic take on the Sleeping Beauty story, which releases soon from Decadent Publishing’s Beyond Fairytales series. I’m also excited about the Tempting Signs story, which I’m still working on. And I really loved writing my last release, IF YOU CAN’T STAND THE HEAT, one of my very few contemporaries. It was a foodie romance and just so yummy and delicious. The hero, Derek Dunne was totally mouth-watering.

Post-apocalyptic Sleeping Beauty? Sign me up! Now for some personal questions–what shows are you currently tuning in to?

I’m not sure I can name a favorite. Currently, I am having terrible problems with Sunday night. It seems all the greatest shows are on at the same time! My DVR is getting a total work-out between The Good Wife, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Shameless. Then there’s Thursday night, with The Black List and Scandal. Oh, and Wednesdays with Nashville! And did I happen to mention Chicago Fire and Chicago PD?

How about in the realm of books? Any recommendations?

I’m going through Decadent Publishing’s Black Hills Wolves series. It’s a multi-author series with a shared world, but the books are standalone. They’re short, hot and written by a bunch of really talented writers! (My own, WOLF’S SONG, was the fourth book released, on January 30, 2015.) Except for the 1st book which is the introduction to the wolves’ world, Los Lobos, they need not be read in any particular order. It’s fun to see what’s coming next!

The burning question hits–what’s your zodiac sign?

Capricorn. And I’ve very much a Capricorn. So’s the hero of HER CAPTAIN! The heroine is an Aries and totally incompatible with him! I’m having fun with it!

Ha, I love that! So, everyone’s unique in what irks them while reading–do you have any pet peeves in books?

Cliffhangers. Especially when there is nothing any place in the blurb or intro or copy about the book to lead you to expect a cliffhanger is coming.

Thank you for joining us today! Where can readers find you on the web?

Thanks for asking!
