Indie Recs: Play Dirty

I still have to catch up, but I can’t recommend enough LP Maxa’s The Devil’s Share series. I found Play Dirty more addictive than the first book, and it did a great job setting up Jacks story as well. If you want a great contemporary romance novel, you’ll breeze through these books!

As bassist of the Devil’s Share, Smith James revels in being the ultimate bad boy, until he meets a good girl…who likes it dirty.

PILLS. PAIN. LOSS. LOVE.

Smith James doesn’t need drugs. He just likes them a whole lot. And as bassist for the Devil’s Share, they are easy to come by. So are the women. With a steady supply of both he doesn’t have to think too hard about his past. But when a beautiful physician’s assistant joins the tour, Smith can’t help but want…more.

After watching her high school boyfriend OD, there is no way Dylan Lawson is going to fall for a rock star with a tenuous hold on sobriety, no matter how sexy his New Orleans drawl. She’s been hired to do one job: monitor the health of the lead singer’s girlfriend and her unborn baby. But once Smith flashes that sweet, vulnerable smile, Dylan can’t help but want…more.

And more is what they’ll get. Love on tour is never simple, and with a music festival in Smith’s hometown, a place he’s avoided for years, near his illiterate, abusive, meth-addled father, Smith is one bad night away from a relapse. But with her heart already lost, Dylan is willing to do whatever is necessary to save him—even play a little dirty.

Music Mondays- Play Nice

This Monday, LP Maxa is popping in to discuss her musical inspiration for her rockstar romance, Play Nice!

Play Nice coverSo for Play Nice I had a lot of different songs going through my head. Obviously there were a few Van Morrison songs, because he is Lexi’s favorite. Into the Mystic is one of his popular well known songs, it’s one of my all-time favorites. The other song, He Ain’t Give You None, is a little less known but I just love the raw sound of his voice in it. There is just something about Van Morrison that soothes my soul. He instantly calms me. And I knew I had to pay him some respect in the book.

Into the Mystic — Van Morrison

He Ain’t Give You None – Van Morrison

Right before I decided to start writing The Devil’s Share series, I read Rocks by Joe Perry. I’ve always been an Aerosmith fan, I get it from my dad. So I have to give them a little love as well.

Ragdoll – Aerosmith

The love between Amy and her brother Luke in this book is actually based on real people. My friend Angela has this amazingly talented little brother who is in a band called Dear You. This is my favorite song by them.

Have You Already Forgotten My Name – Dear You

I love the sound of this band, all their songs. It’s almost like, collectively they are an old soul. This music makes my happy.

S.O.B. – Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats

And last…If I could compare The Devil’s Share to any current rock band it would be Rise Against. I love how they can sound really chill and then in the next song really grungy.

Audience of One – Rise Against

My play list is a little all over the place, but that’s how I listen to music. I love it all, and I just have one giant shuffle going on at all times. The old deserves respect and the new deserves a chance. That’s my music philosophy.

lpmaxaPlay Nice has been out for a few months now and I know readers are ready for Smith’s story. Play Dirty, book two, will hopefully be out in a couple of months. It’s completed and is with my editor, so fingers crossed, it will be out before the end of the year. I’m on twitter @LPMaxa and Facebook under L.P. Maxa, and I’ve listed my website as well.
