Weekly Word Count #121

Word Count: 6,141

What story I’m currently working on: I slowed down a little this week on my YA fantasy heist story, as I’m only at 28k, but that was for legitimate reasons as you’ll see in the next section. However, the plot is unfolding pretty quickly, and I think by the end of September, I’ll have hit 30k–that’s something you can hold me to. I’m planning on finishing this book by November, and I think it’s quite do-able.

What I’m editing/marketing: Forged Alliances came out last week! On top of that, I finished my lines for Captured Memories, which is coming out October 17th!! (what, what!) But guys, shit is about to get ridiculous. Because I spent most of last week pounding out A Reflection of Ice for submission—and it got contracted with Opal Moon Press!!! Between that book and Of Tinkers and Technomancers, I already have new releases lined up for 2018! Plus, I’ll have the second Tribal Spirits book to my editor before the year end, so maybe I can hit a record breaking six contracts this year! On the marketing front, An Airship Named Desire is currently 99 cents!!

Line of the week:

“How long have you known?” she asked, the realization sinking in through her skin that Lorne Drachen hid a lot behind a handsome face and a sinner’s smile.

Writing Adventure

So, one important part of writing is establishing a setting. In my most recent WIP, an urban fantasy set in Philly, my characters take several trips to Fairmount Park. Since I live in the suburbs of the city, and my husband and I planned a trip to Philly for our anniversary, we thought it’d be a blast to check out Fairmount! (It’d been years since we’d last gone.)

We found a gazebo! And wandered all through the park on a search for cherry blossoms. We couldn’t find them at first since it ended up being before peak bloom, but we managed to find one.

On top of that, we found statues as we walked along the pathway past the Please Touch Museum, and the Shofuso Gardens! Altogether, I found it enriching, and while having a blast, I also garnered details for my edits. An adventure well spent!
