Weekly Word Count #104

Word Count: 259

What story I’m working on: Guys, it’s been a slow week lol. I switched gears into editing mode, and so I only did the tiniest smidge of work on The Airship Also Rises. But it’s starting to percolate in my brain, which is good. I promise next week I’ll be back on track and writing more heavily.

What I’m editing/marketing: This week however, my time was pretty much devoted to finishing the line edits for Waking for Winter. It’s READY TO GO!!!! We just have to wait until July 4th for the release! Future King’s been sitting around–I really just have one more massive sweep to do, so I recruited some more beta readers to take a look. I simultaneously started looking at the Cupid’s Cafe edits–I think they’ll be quick because its a shorter story!! So of course, my marketing for Waking for Winter will be ramping up to 11!

Line of the week:

Sabine stood a foot away from me in a corset and chemise that begged for a couple stains and her perfectly curled hair pinned back and out of the way. She was supposed to be watching my back, but instead, she picked at her nails.

“Your fingers are all still there, girlie,” I murmured, irritation besting me. “But they won’t be if you don’t keep your focus.”

What story I’m working on: ….so, the Cupid’s Cafe story is finished. Sometimes things just flow, and this story…well, flew. Which means I’ve got an empty slot for what story to tackle next…I *might* have penned the first lines to the final Airship book, The Airship Also Rises…

What I’m editing/marketing: I’ve still been paring away at Future King edits while waiting on beta-reader responses, but I’m moving forward one baby step at a time. I’ll also probably be plunging into Cupid’s Cafe edits soon, mostly because it’d be nice to get something out the door. Once I get lines in for Waking for Winter, I’ll be entering full fledged work mode on marketing, since the release keeps getting closer and closer!

Line of the week:

“Some days, the sheer amount of enemies we attracted made me question if maybe our crew was a little too trigger happy. That maybe we’d started pissing in too many pots without thinking of the consequences.

But then I remembered that most folks couldn’t hold to a basic code of honor if it killed them. And kill them we did. Repeatedly.”

What story I’m working on: Since my word count from last week was so low, I charged into this week at full speed, hitting 70k. Now that I have nothing on the editing plate and because I’m nearing the end of Future King, I am just throwing all my efforts into this story. It’s either going to be another 5k or 10k (not really sure yet) so I’m anticipating finishing it next week. This story is my heart and soul at the moment, so I’m really hoping to have some luck with it.

What I’m editing/marketing: NOTHING TO EDIT!! Seriously, this rarely happens. Since I pushed so hard with Forged Alliances though, my editing plate is freed up. I’m also waiting for the first edits for Waking for Winter too, so yeah…it’s crazy!

Line of the week:

I’d met criminals with more honor than an entire battalion, I’d tapped into the magic that I’d been told to push down my entire life, and I’d met the sort of man who inspired me to fight those restraints, who helped me achieve more than I ever believed possible.

“I understand now,” I said, my fingertips tracing the glass in front of me as I stared out with her, into the starry sky beyond. “How you could leave Europa and never look back. Why you’d risk everything for this cause.”

What story I’m working on: Slowed down a little with Future King due to some plot machinations that needed working out. I hit 57k this week, and I think before I leave for my trip next week, I’ll try to get to 65. Lofty goals–someone oughta hold me to it!  I got to THE scene I wanted to write (honestly, most of my wordage for the week was a 5k binge session, lol) but I’ve also been trying to thread out the remainder of the book. We’re in the final third of it, definitely past the midpoint and heading into endzone territory. Not going to lie, I’m thrilled with the way this story has panned out so far.

What I’m editing/marketing: I’m deep into edits on Forged Alliances. Even if I don’t finish the edits this week, I’ll finish them by the end of April for sure. In other news, I got a release date for Waking for Winter–4th of July! So you’ll be getting lots of fun Christmas in July parallels 😛

Teaser of the week:

Dante took a sip from his steaming cup and shook his head, a smirk on his lips. “Thought you were an obedient good girl now.” She arched a brow. “Dunno, I think stopping imminent e

Line of the week:

I leaned in, crushing my lips to his.

The response was immediate, incendiary. Merlin gripped the back of my neck, his fingers weaving through my hair as he tugged me towards him. Beyond the metals we worked with, beyond the raw power brewing inside us, the alchemy that roiled inside me when my lips met his was the strongest pull in the system.

What story I’m working on: I see the end in sight for Future King even though I’m at 50k in the story! There are a couple twists and turns I need to suss out, but for the most part I can see the direction I want to take this clearly. What I’m excited about is that I’m getting to THE scene, the one that’s burned through me from the beginning of the book. Usually a romancey hookup scene, tbh. It tides me through all the slow burn, the thought of the awesome scene that’ll unfold later on.

What I’m editing/marketing: I got most of my beta reads back on Forged Alliances, so I’m doing massive edits on it. So far, it’s looking like I’ll be finished them in a week or two–they’re definitely doable things. I’m super excited to begin work on Waking for Winter too, and I’ll probably be able to announce a release date to you guys soon!

Line of the week:

His gaze sparked with amber depths, a vulnerability I hadn’t yet seen from this complex, layered man. I wasn’t the only one who unraveled. Every encounter, every touch and incursion delved deeper and deeper to the point I wondered how I ever could’ve believed he was simply the smart-talking criminal I’d first encountered. Despite all the confidence he displayed, what truly made Merlin stronger than most was the fact that he plunged through this as blind as the rest of us sometimes, never letting on to the others his fears and worries. Shouldering the burden alone.

What story I’m working on: Future King is picking up speed, as I hit 40k this week! The whole story is starting to unfold with that clarity that I sometimes get at the midway point. I know exactly where I want it to go, and I can’t wait for the ride. This is going to be an intense read.

What I’m editing/marketing: At the moment I started tweaking Red Skies Take Warning, an older manuscript, and I began doing some grammatical edits on Forged Alliances while I’m waiting for my beta-readers to get back to me. On the plus, I can’t wait to start into Waking for Winter edits! I recently started submittng Captivating Melody to publishers, so fingers crossed, because that series would be glorious.

Line of the week:

So the minute the musicians began to play, I watched, spellbound. These masters of their craft spun a tale before us as the melody filtered through the air. The heartrending strain of the violin, the piercing, mesmerizing whistle of the flute wove together with the robust notes from the cello binding the piece together. No words were necessary to communicate the slow rise of the grief that suspended in the air. I knew this devastation well, one that brought me to my knees every time I’d entered my house, waiting for a greeting that would never arrive.

What story I’m working on: Weeeeeell, I definitely kicked some ass this week in the wording department. Got all the way up to 45k in Forged Alliances, which means I’m tumbling downhill to the end fast. (About 15k projected left!) And while my pace slowed down with Future King a wee bit, I still rounded the week off at 29k, so forward progress for the win!

What I’m editing/marketing: I’m about halfway through the final edit of The Iron Legacy, which means I need to start writing and polishing a query. Still waiting to here on Waking for Winter, and I also recently started submitting Captivating Melody to publishers, so fingers crossed.

Line of the week:

His lips brushed over hers, nothing like the fiery explosions that had erupted between them before. This gentle scrape of a kiss shocked her with adrenaline, coaxing the deep, burning core of her to the surface. The sun glowed along her skin, the warmth and light dizzying when combined with the sensations of his fingers tangled through her hair and his lips on hers. She melted into the kiss, embracing the heady swirl of euphoria that emerged as they continued this tentative exploration.
