Music Monday- What You Want

Musical Mondays for all!

Today let’s welcome Landra Graf with her book What You Want to discuss her musical inspiration for the book!

29636487

Say You Do by Dierks Bentley – This song makes me think of early on in the story, when both hero and heroine have met, but she’s trying to convince him to agree to a little dessert.

Come a Little Closer Baby by Dierks Bentley – This is an end of the book song. One that has all the Happily Ever After and sexy I could dream of. Also, this guy’s voice… if you can’t tell I love it.

Come Over by Kenny Chesney – I easily got into the mood for writing Kanoa and Laney’s scenes leading up to the big smexy moments listening to this song.

Just a Kiss by Lady Antebellum – This song means a ton for my heroine, Laney. I can’t say specifically why, but kisses are a big deal.

Like a Wrecking Ball by Eric Church – One of the naughtiest country songs I’ve heard in a while. It fits my characters and came in handy for the more sensual moments in this book.

What’s your next project on the horizon? What You Want is the second in the Desperately Seeking Submissive series. The third one, What You Desire, is coming in April and features one of the characters from this story. What You Crave, the first book in the series, is available now.

Where can your readers find you? I’m always wandering Facebook via Landra Graf. My website is another way to check out my books and what I’m up to. If you want the latest news I highly suggest signing up for my newsletter, which I share with the awesome Catherine Peace.

What You Want

When her sister gets sick on the night of her 1Night Stand date, Laney Malcolm is asked to fill in and pretend to be her twin. Treating it as a lark, she looks forward to an adventurous event with a free dinner and not much else. She isn’t prepared for the fierce attraction nor the urge to help the Hawaiian, tattooed submissive she’s introduced to.

Kanoa Mahelona has spent the last year trying to find himself, but he’s tired of random hook-ups and women who only want him for his bad-boy image. Madame Eve helped his boss, so he turns to her for assistance. Attractive and damn good at breaking through his barriers, the blonde Domme challenges him in a way he can’t seem to turn down.

Only she’s not who she appears to be, and, once the truth comes out, it may be too late to go back.

Music Monday-Fractured Fantasies Volume 2

Music Mondays are BACK!

Today we’ve got the lovely Torie James here with her latest release, Fractured Fantasies Volume 2!

fracturedfantasies2

I’d sat down with intentions to write only ONE volume for what became this series but my Dark Muse thought otherwise.

I’m entirely comfy writing paranormal romance, along with sub-genres like fantasy, sci-fi, etc. Erotica, however, was a field I never dreamt of taking but all it took was one person to double dog dare me and here we are.

I’m a huge fan of older shows such as The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Outer Limits, Tales from the Darkside and Tales from the Crypt. I wanted to write dark erotica with those shows in mind, those tales of erasing the lines between good and bad, blurring the limits of decadence and darkness and as always, learning valuable lessons only when its too late.

I’d like to think I’ve conquered that challenge with these lush, dangerous and sexy offerings.

Shakespeare said it best.

If music be the food of love, play on.

I’d like to offer an addendum, however.

If music be the food of love, play on. But if lust drives the bus, next stop is Kinkville!

Clearly, you can see why I don’t write profound poetry.

Making a playlist for these stories proved nearly as challenging as writing the stories themselves but when I did find songs that inspired me to go Dark Side, whole new worlds opened up and allowed me to paint a surreal, sexy backdrop. Here are a few of my faces.

Sweet Dreams (Marilyn Manson version) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUvVdTlA23w

Now, I’m an 80s girl, tried and true. As such, the original version done by the Eurythmics is an all time favorite, hands down. But Manson’s version is slow, creepy and hypnotic, adding the right amount of shadiness. The way some chords are shredded, along with screeching synth, always makes me shiver.

Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me – U2 –

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDl1c0nR5SI&list=RDIDl1c0nR5SI

Bono and the boys knocked it out of the ball park with this one. Slow, throbbing  mystery and low, throaty lyrics that reach out and wrap around the psyche. Kind of like a stranglehold of seduction.

Make Me Wanna Die – The Pretty Reckless –

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txBfhpm1jI0

Taylor Momsen surprised me with her vocal chops. I mean, wow. She was the little girl who played Cindy Lou Who in the Jim Carrey version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. She went on to play a stellar role on Gossip Girl before fronting a bad ass band. This song is full of dark and delicious caution.

Take Me To Church – Hozier –

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYSVMgRr6pw

This one is fairly new in my repertoire but I’ve quickly fallen in love with it. Thumping bass, whispery strings and the lead singer’s amazing lyrics and voice bring it all together. It’s a song of depth and deception, heaven and hell. Sinner and saint. *swoon*

Little Talks – Of Monsters and Men –

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghb6eDopW8I

I stumbled on this gem a couple of months ago by total accident. It’s so trippy!! I kid you not! I can’t praise it enough, simply for the fact that is it completely unidentifiable, if that makes sense. I’ve forced my sister and mother to listen to it then tell me what they thought the song was about. They had different answers and mine was also different from theirs. Part ghost story, part insanity, it leaves me a bit sad every time I hear it but that’s also part of its allure.

***

Fractured Fantasies Collection (Volume Two)

In the burning lands of rapturous fulfillment and unrequited desire, one false step can lead down the path towards delicious destruction. Impassioned appeals, sinful seductions and fevered longings can often hide degrees of twisted tenderness but don’t be fooled. Not all prisons have bars, silence can be deadly and even the sweetest face conceals monstrous insanity. Tread lightly, choose well or find sexual satisfaction at the dead end of one-way street.

Book One – The Factory

A glittering citadel born from blood money and power tripping provides the perfect stage for its mysterious owner and his young, dazzling wife. Before the final act is called and the curtain falls, they’ll both be tested to the limits of their personal, moral compasses. And neither of theirs point true north.

Book Two – Nevermore

Newlyweds on a romantic, Spanish honeymoon find themselves battling against stereotypes after a short engagement leads to a much longer commitment. In the shadows of infatuation, however, lay the groundwork for a cruel coupling that even death cannot part.

Book Three – The Nomad

In a post-apocalyptic, dystopian future, one young warrior woman travels the world in search of help against The Great Evil. When her travels take her far underground to the lair of the last great Champion, she finds duty mixing with desire and a tender temptation that threatens her mission.

Author Bio:

Born on the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous, Torie is the illegitimate love child of Han Solo and Daenerys Targaryen. Rescued by Gandalf shortly before her home planet was destroyed in the last days of the Clone Wars, she was raised in relative obscurity by her foster parents, Severus Snape and Pippi Longstocking. At the tender age of 113, she inherited the best little whorehouse in Texas and is rumored to be bringing Sexy Back. A self- confessed chocoholic, she’s been engaged to Willy Wonka despite gossip surrounding a lifelong affair with Bruce Wayne.

And clearly, she practices delusion on a daily basis.

The truth is, I’m just an overgrown kid with a vivid imagination who loves to write and share my crazy with the world. My future plans include, hopefully, buying a lovely Scottish castle and convincing Queen Elizabeth I that I’d make a fab addition to the Royal Family.

Three years ago, I finally got my ‘brave’ on and submitted a wee story about true love, honor, friendship and the magic within us all. That story was Timeless Night, the first book in a five book series I’ve named New Camelot. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to have published Timeless Desire (Book 2 of New Camelot), Beauty and The Feast (A New Camelot Thanksgiving Novella) Ties That Bind (The Cloie Chronicles I), Fractured Fantasies (Valentine’s Venom), Fractured Fantasies (Volume 1) and coming soon, Fractured Fantasies (Volume Two).

I live in Southern California, a stone’s throw from Disneyland, with my family and the most ridiculously spoiled pets anyone could imagine. I wake everyday with the determination to make this life as random, quirky and beautiful as it can be.

Music Monday-Secret of the Master Gearsman

Need some new tunes for the new week? Look no further.

Today Einar Mercier is sharing his musical inspiration for Secret of the Master Gearsman with us!

These songs from my Secret of the Master Gearsman playlist were common tunes while I sat at my laptop, envisioning the fantastic Gears & Gunfighters world and the people in it!

1. “Roundtable Rival,” by Lindsay Sterling. In truth, all of her music is amazing to play in the background while writing, but this song fits my steampunk material well. The pace keeps the keys clacking away while the melody fills you with a sense of adventure and opportunity that makes whatever comes next in the novel seem eager to break out onto the page. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=jvipPYFebWc

2.  “Jesse James,“ by Clay Walker. Steampunk Westerns combine two of the most common guy-stereotypes, the need to tinker and fix things, and the desire to wear a low-slung gun belt and walk into a saloon with your spurs jangling. This song does a great job capturing that ineffable quality, that glimmer in the hearts of good and ordinary folks to rob a train. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIlpwKxd2s4

3. “Steampunk Pixie,” by Frenchy and the Punk. This is a great rockabilly-saloon song. The bounce in the beat and the charm of the tune is great for when I’m writing wry humor or sarcastic dialogue strips. It can be easy to get lost in the Western feel or the grit and noir of this book’s ongoing conflict, and this reminds me to have fun with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=ixbKm2JQx2w

4. “Glory and Gore,” by Lorde. This is a bit of a departure from the theme, but half of my world is populated by Vikings and this encapsulates the different worldview and behaviors of the Union’s northern border. The simple, direct savagery of the lyrics speaks to the way my Northmen behave in a beautiful and elegant way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOks2HArHf0

5. “Hungry Eyes,” by Eric Carmen. Not only a timeless classic and a great pace to write to, but it is a perfect representation of when Coline (the main character) encounters Guthvormyr, leader of a mystical race that lives within the Aether. That’s all I can say about it without giving away key plot points, but when you read the novel it will make sense!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oKUTOLSeMM

I never experienced Writer’s Block but instead have what I have termed Writer’s Diffusion, an inability to focus on just one writing project at a time. As such, I am amidst all of the following projects:

Einherjar, the Viking afterlife of a US Soldier, in edit and review for release in 2016.

Everlasting, a Slavic-horror tale, 30% complete.

Ransomed Dreams, a sci-fi pulp/noir adventure, 30% complete.

Seventy-Nine, a tarot-inspired adventure in the tradition of Alice in Wonderland, 20% complete.

Gunfighter: The Midnight Line, a modern action-novel, 20% complete.

Music Monday- Three Yuletide Wishes

Just another Music Monday!

Today we’re welcoming Alanna Lucas with her book Three Yuletide Wishes

Yuletide

Listening to music is a great source of inspiration. When a character connects with a particular song, I will listen to that song over and over again. Each time, the character reveals a little more of themselves to me.

A Marchioness for Christmas is my latest release (yeah, none of the music on the list are Christmas songs)- hope you enjoy!

Goodbye Agony by Black Veil Brides

The moment I heard this song, I envisioned Dracon visiting the gravesite of his first wife and unborn child. For ten years he struggled with her untimely death, unable to move forward. But when he heard Antonia play the violin, her music touched a part of his soul that he thought was dead. Dracon realizes he has to let go of the past to have future with Antonia. He says goodbye to his agony.

Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven

Beethoven has always been a source of inspiration for me. I love playing this on the piano when I want to relax- and even taught both my kids to play this piece as well.

This sonata represents the quiet moment when Dracon and Antonia realize their love for each other, but each are too afraid to speak, too afraid to confess their secrets.

You Belong To Me by Dean Martin

Despite all the wasted years, foolish decisions, and misunderstandings between Dracon and Antonia, he is still in love with her and wants to protect her. Deep in his heart, Dracon knows Antonia is his one true love. Antonia makes his world complete. She belongs to him.

The Phoenix by Fall Out Boy

The intro to The Phoenix has a powerful violin sample from Dmitri Shostakovich’s IV. Allegro Non Troppo. My heroine, Antonia plays the violin and was very drawn to this song. Every time I hear it, I imagine Antonia playing the introduction. At first, it was a way for her to release her anger toward her father, but as her journey progressed, she used that passion to express herself. Antonia discovers that she has more in common with Dracon than she first realized.

Immortals by Fall Out Boy

“I try to picture me without you but I can’t” This line sums it all up for Dracon.

What’s your next project on the horizon?

My novella, Stolen Kisses from the Viscount, is part of an eight-author anthology entitled Once Upon a True Love’s Kiss. The collaboration with such a talented group of authors has been an amazing experience. https://www.facebook.com/OnceUponATrueLovesKiss

Music Monday- What You Crave

This Monday, let’s welcome Landra Graf with her new book, What You Crave!

29222376

Dangerous by David Guetta ft. Sam Martin – This song sparked the initial ideas for the main characters in my latest release. As I listened I couldn’t get the thought of a sleek black Porsche, leather interior, and a woman in a black dress.

Bad by David Guetta ft. Vassy – Lauren, my heroine, is a good girl by nature. She doesn’t do anything crazy, until signing up for a 1NS. Meeting Sig and submitting to him is also something on her naughty list.

Damaged by Danity Kane – Both Lauren and Sig are damaged by their past relationships and so this song resonated with me to those parts of them and helped when developing the conflicts they faced.

Under Control by Calvin Harris ft. Alesso, Hurts – All those bondage scenes needed some inspirational help, and towards the end of the story things got super-heated, physically and emotionally.

I Want It All by Karmin – Every 1NS is typically just that, one night. This song plays up to the emotions riding high in my characters. As the story develops and the H/h become closer the question is will 1 night be enough?

What’s your next project on the horizon? What You Crave is the first in the Desperately Seeking Submissive series. The second on, What You Want, is coming in March and features one of the characters from this story.

I’m always wandering Facebook via Landra Graf. My website is another way to check out my books and what I’m up to. If you want the latest news I highly suggest signing up for my newsletter, which I share with the awesome Catherine Peace.

What You Crave

Sigmund Bermudez has spent the last year out of the BDSM scene, mourning the death of his father and rebuilding the family business. When he loses a bet to his bodyguard that Madame Eve won’t locate a woman who’s down with his type of kink, he finds himself committed to a date he’s not sure he’ll enjoy.

Lauren Elser has heard about kinky escapades from one of her more challenging patients, and never taken in part in one. When offered a chance to explore this undiscovered side of herself courtesy of 1Night Stand, she jumps at it.

Neither of them is prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that comes with their date, and soon shibari bondage play turns into so much more. The only problem, is Sig’s not ready to open up and Lauren doesn’t want to be sued again. But if they work past the issues, there’s a world of wonder in store.

Music Monday- Tyburn

Start your Monday off with some awesome new music!

Today we’re welcoming Jessica Cale with Tyburn, book one of the Southwark Saga!

Un Jeune Homme Chantait – Edith Piaf

This song is a terrific prologue for the book. It’s moody, beautiful, and a little eerie. It’s about a girl who gets seduced by a boy on a highway, thinking they’ll be together forever. He leaves her there, broken, and goes on his merry way, singing. When Tyburn starts, Sally is a disillusioned prostitute who had been abused or abandoned by multiple men. Plus, the song is in French and she’s from Normandy, so to me it sounds like her backstory.

Do You Love Me? – Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

I listened to so much Nick Cave while writing this book that it was difficult choosing just one song. This one has a certain addictive mania to it that I love, plus the amazing line “I found God and all his devils inside her.” Yes. Exactly that. There’s this wonderful angel/monster duality here that suits Sally down to her toes. If I could pick a theme song for the book, this would probably be it.

Little Drop of Poison – Tom Waits

Poison plays a part in Tyburn, literally and metaphorically. Many of the medicines and cosmetics at the time like mercury, lead, and wormwood are recognized as poison now. You also have the lines “Nobody knows they’re lining up to go insane/I’m all alone, I smoke my friends down to the filter.” This is very much Sally’s mentality. She’s an alcoholic who regularly hallucinates the Death is following her, and her friends keep dying. Spot on.

One More Cup of Coffee – Bob Dylan

I love the shuffle of the intro to this song. It has this terrific folky, off-beat thing going on. It doesn’t scan and it should drive me crazy (I’m a drummer), but I’m crazy about it. This is a kind of tribute to a mysterious gypsy woman. I find the chorus asking for coffee is both comfortably relatable and oddly ominous. Sally is an orphan, and is raised believing her mother was a gypsy. During the seventeenth century when I’m writing, coffee was a hugely popular drink and tea was almost exclusively enjoyed by the wealthiest classes. Most of my characters are firmly working class or lower — carpenters, barmaids, prostitutes, highwaymen — and they drink a lot of coffee!

Stand and Deliver – Adam & The Ants

My hero, Nick Virtue, is a highwayman, and if highwaymen ever had an anthem, it’s this one! This song is a lot of fun and a welcome break from the sexy gloom of the rest of the playlist. This would be a good song to play over the closing credits. 😉

What’s your next project on the horizon?

I am getting ready to release the third book of The Southwark Saga, The Long Way Home. I’m hoping to have it out this Spring!

Where can your readers find you?

You can find me on my website at http://www.authorjessicacale.com. I’m also very active on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/authorjessicacale/) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/JessicaCale).

Blurb:

When survival is impossible, love is everything.

Sally Green is about to die.

She sees Death in the streets. She can taste it in her gin. She can feel it in the very walls of the ramshackle brothel where she is kept to satisfy the perversions of the wealthy. She had come to London as a runaway in search of her Cavalier father. Instead, she found Wrath, a sadistic nobleman determined to use her to fulfill a sinister ambition. As the last of her friends are murdered one by one, survival hinges on escape.

Nick Virtue is a tutor with a secret. By night he operates as a highwayman, relieving nobles of their riches to further his brother’s criminal enterprise. It’s a difficult balance at the best of times, and any day that doesn’t end in a noose is a good one. Saving Sally means risking his reputation, and may end up costing him his life.

As a brutal attack throws them together, Sally finds she has been given a second chance. She is torn between the tutor and the highwayman, but she knows she can have neither. Love is an unwanted complication while Wrath haunts the streets. Nick holds the key to Wrath’s identity, and Sally will risk everything to bring him to justice.

Unless the gallows take her first.

Music Monday- Blood, Lust and Love

It’s that time again–Music Monday!

Here today to join us is Sheri Velarde to discuss her new release, Blood, Lust and Love!

Blood, Lust and Love Final

Blood, Lust and Love: A Collection of Vampire Shorts is all about vampires. So naturally that brought out the old school goth in me when it came to the soundtrack for these three stories.

1. Never Tear Us Apart by INXS- I used to have the hugest crush on Michael Hutchence and let’s face it, he had the sexy vampire kind of look down. This is also a perfect song for creatures that live forever and can possibly love for ever as well. Though Devil Inside and so many other songs fit the mythos of vampires as well.

2. Anything by The Cure. Anything. I cannot even tell you how much I loved this band as a teen and how when I write anything gothic or about vampire this is one of my go to listens. If I had to pick one song for vampire… maybe Fascination Street? Vampires are pretty darn fascinating!

3. Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode. This is another band that I could pick almost any song. “All I ever wanted, all I ever needed is here in my arms.” Pretty good vampire pick up line I would say! And true since love and food could come from the same person for them! Lol

4. Rebel Rebel by David Bowie. Okay so this isn’t goth, but aren’t vampires rebels against the world itself.

5. This next one may be because they looked like vampires? LOL I don’t know. Taking you back from some 80s glam metal now with L.A. Guns and Over the Edge. Isn’t that what being a vampire is about, living over the edge?

Lots of things are coming up. Later this month I have my short “Rumpled Sheets” in the Twisted Fables anthology on Torquere Press. I am also working on a m/m fantasy novella for them that I hope to have out in the late spring. I have a shifter re-release coming out in October on my own Stoker Publishing, with a lot more new and re-releases to follower there.  I am also working on the follow up to my fantasy novel Quest for Redemption. I suspect there will be a lot more releases before the year is out.
