Weekly Word Count #166

Word Count: 12,000

What story I’m currently working on:

Oh man, guys! I forgot to update last Thursday! Since I don’t remember what my word count was that day, I’m just going to update with the totals–Forged Contracts is FINISHED at 67k! My god, it was an intense book. I’m not sure at all which book I’m going to tackle next, Hypnotizing Beat or the next Tribal Spirits book! (Only two more in that series left!) It’s currently out with beta readers! If you’ve got a preference for what I write next, feel free to comment.

What I’m editing/marketing:

I’m still moving forward with Musketeer Pirates, which I still need to come up with a name for–I’ve been thinking on that for some time now. I’m moving at a much brisker pace since I just finished writing a book. Also, The Airship Also Rises came out, which means the Take to the Skies series has ended. I’ve taken a chance to clean up all my loose ends, so I’ll be able to plunge forward full force!

Teaser of the week:

Some days, the sheer amount of enemies we attracted made me question if maybe our crew was a little too trigger happy. That maybe we_d started pissing in too many pots without thinking

Line of the week:

This time, Christian charged for her.

The distance closed between them in a blink. One moment he was pacing before her, the next he bared his fangs leapt.

Raven tried to veer out of the way, but he moved too fast. His paws caught her side first, the claws scraping against her skin. He landed on top, his full weight slamming into her. They tumbled around across the wooden floorboards, splintered wood scraping against her back.

This floor. That sensation.

Her entire body locked up as her mind screamed and screamed and screamed.

What story I’m currently working on:

Forged Contracts is MOVING along! I might be a smidge behind because there was a lot going on last week and will be a lot going on this week, but I’m still pushing forward with it. Last week I thought that this book would be 60k, but since I’m currently at 55k and there’s a significant amount of stuff that still needs to happen, I’m thinking it’s going to be closer to 65k, which is great. The book has a lot going on, esp emotional stuff to unpack, so I think it’s good for it to have more room to breathe.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Currently, I’m still slugging away at Musketeer Pirates. I will finish that book before the end of the year, even if it kills me. It just might. The Airship Also Rises comes out TOMORROW, which marks the end of my Take to the Skies series. I’m thrilled, but also sad. It’s a bittersweet thing, since An Airship Named Desire was the first book ever published for me. Right now though, the entire series is available for under 5 bucks, so yay!

Teaser of the week:

“Rare stories traveled of those who rose too high, the ships who sailed like Icarus towards the sun.And like him, they crashed and burned for their arrogance.”(1)

Line of the week:

A knock sounded on the door.

“Who the hell is knocking on my door this time of day?” Jer muttered, running a hand through his curls.

Raven snorted. “You mean lunchtime? Because I’m pretty sure it’s lunch time. Might want to throw a shirt on, stud.” Her fingers trailed down his chest before she snapped them away and headed for the door.

Jer couldn’t help the grin that rose to his lips as he stalked over to his bedroom and snagged a wrinkled shirt from the floor.

What story I’m currently working on: Making tiny steps with Airship, and I’m okay with that. I’m building into a crescendo, so that next week I’ll be back on top with pushing through the final 20k of the book in January. December was a turbulent month with a lot of reassessing and revisiting certain projects, so I had to slow down on the writing. I can write like a fiend when my target is clear, but while I’m figuring out my 2018 path, I needed to switch to heavy editing and get other things set up for next year.

What I’m editing/marketing: Captivating Melody is out on submission, so I’m still waiting to hear from 5 different publishers on that front. Fingers crossed! In the meanwhile, I’m almost done all of the Outlier Heir revisions and will be going back to submitting that in the new year. I also completely reworked Chasing Fate and now I’m tackling a new query, so that will be front and center at the start of 2018. I’m going to dive back into Musketeer Pirates next week since I’ll have all my submission items ready to launch come next week, and that’s when I can switch focus back to writing as well.

Teaser of the week:

An invitation to Cupid_s Café will change your life.

Line of the week:

Geoff slammed into my side, knocking me off balance. I staggered to the side right as a bullet zoomed inches overhead.

“I know this place is fancy and all, but you’ve got to stop gawking,” Geoff said with a grin. “They might just figure out we don’t belong here.”

I snorted, lifting up Matilda and squeezing the trigger in the direction of those guards firing at us. “Because the bullets aren’t any indicator,” I drawled back.

What story I’m currently working on: Still super slow with Airship, making it to 55k. Crazy to think this time last month I was closer to 30k or more down for the month, but after two consecutive months of heavy wordcount, I have some massive editing to do. I’m going to attempt to hit 60k by next week, meaning I’ll have 20k to write in January, which is more than doable.

What I’m editing/marketing: A Tale of Two Airships came out in audio book last week! While Captivating Melody is out on submission I’m turning to working on Outlier Heir and reworking Chasing Fate from last year. Musketeer Pirates is hanging tight for a little bit while beta readers look it over, so I’m currently juggling a LOT of editing projects. I heard some word on Of Tinkers and Technomancers that editing should begin in February, so hopefully you’ll be reading it by March/April 2018!

Teaser of the week:

Line of the week:

If she was in immediate danger, I could pull focus from the rest of my crew. To me, of course, but this plan wouldn’t be any fun if it wasn’t insane.

What story I’m currently working on: So, I’m still slow going on Airship, but I’m picking up a little more speed on it this week and made it to 54k. I’m still trying to find my direction, since Loose Id’s closure is going to cause some trickiness next year. I do promise that by next year I’ll have the Take to the Skies series finished and a new romance series in the works, come what may.

What I’m editing/marketing: A Tale of Two Airships is out in audio book! Captivating Melody is on submission with at least 5-10 different publishers, so cross your fingers for me that I’ll find a home for it! So, in the interim, I started working on Musketeer Pirates, digging into the content edits and getting more beta readers to take a look at it! I also finished the updates on Outlier Heir, so I’m getting input on that at the moment! As for A Reflection of Ice and Of Tinkers and Technomancers, they’ll be coming out in the new year!

Teaser of the week:

A slow smile rolled to his lips. Even though she_d insisted the favor be professional, his mind couldn_t help but wander to all the things he_d rather do with her than work. Those

Line of the week:

I opened my mouth, but the words dried up. All the bluster I’d been rolling in with, all the fire, and I still knew so little about what had been going on all along. I was still fumbling ahead in the dark, groping for any scrap of information to put these pieces together.

What story I’m currently working on: Well, the fantasy heist picked up steam. I am going to attempt the crazy and try to finish it before the end of October…we shall see…I polevaulted ahead to 40k this week, almost at the halfway point, so it just might be doable. I had an aggressive start, which was awesome, and ideally, I’d like to finish it so I can switch gears to The Airship Also Rises come November! (steampunk pun, hee!)

What I’m editing/marketing: Forged Alliances came out two weeks ago, but already I’m switching focus to the release coming up IN two weeks! Captured Memories is now available for pre-order here! Beyond that, you’ll have Of Tinkers and Technomancers and A Reflection of Ice to look forward to in the beginning of 2018, and I’m not stopping for a heartbeat. Gotta keep on, keepin on. I’ve begun diving into edits for Forged Decisions, and I have a good idea of where I want to go with that, so I’m excited to push them through. My hope is that Forged Decisions will be submission ready by the end of November!

Teaser of the week:

Lyra had been born in the cold, and in the stark of winter she thrived.

Line of the week:

How wrong she had been. The girl who stood before her was the same jagged glass personality, quick for a response and too blunt for her own good, but Weavers bless, she had a devoted heart that hadn’t changed. Once Fiona Blackwater got her talons into you, the woman would sail straight through a storm, torch a building, or even thrash the bitch who ran the serving quarters in retribution. Even when she’d gotten whipped out in the yard afterwards.

What story I’m currently working on: I slowed down a little this week on my YA fantasy heist story, as I’m only at 28k, but that was for legitimate reasons as you’ll see in the next section. However, the plot is unfolding pretty quickly, and I think by the end of September, I’ll have hit 30k–that’s something you can hold me to. I’m planning on finishing this book by November, and I think it’s quite do-able.

What I’m editing/marketing: Forged Alliances came out last week! On top of that, I finished my lines for Captured Memories, which is coming out October 17th!! (what, what!) But guys, shit is about to get ridiculous. Because I spent most of last week pounding out A Reflection of Ice for submission—and it got contracted with Opal Moon Press!!! Between that book and Of Tinkers and Technomancers, I already have new releases lined up for 2018! Plus, I’ll have the second Tribal Spirits book to my editor before the year end, so maybe I can hit a record breaking six contracts this year! On the marketing front, An Airship Named Desire is currently 99 cents!!

Line of the week:

“How long have you known?” she asked, the realization sinking in through her skin that Lorne Drachen hid a lot behind a handsome face and a sinner’s smile.

What story I’m currently working on: Well, in the interim, I finished the Steampunk with a Twist story (tentatively titled Of Tinkers and Technomancers) at 33k. Which happened to be perfect timing, because the first book of my Tribal Spirits series, Forged Alliances, got picked up!!! So I got a zephyr of renewed motivation for book two in the series, Forged Decisions, making it all the way to 20k this week! I even got another thousand words into the Musketeer Pirate story, beginning another chapter at 6k–this story might be a slow burn WIP, but damn, it’s gonna be good.

What I’m editing/marketing: Currently, my Steampunk with a Twist story is with my lovely beta readers, and then I shall begin MASS EDITINGS. Also, I pressed the button–An Airship Named Desire audio book should be available in the next couple days. OH MY GOD GUYS. IT’S GOOD. All of the excite.

Line of the week:

“You didn’t have to do that,” Navi said, her voice quieting. Their eyes met for a moment, charged understanding a current between them.

“And you didn’t have to help back there,” he murmured, his voice growing hoarse with seriousness. Navi’s lips pressed together and she tucked several strands of hair behind her ear, breaking her gaze.

What story I’m full *steam* ahead on this steampunk story! And by that, I mean by the next update it’s going to be finished. I’m at 28k and I’m only projecting about 30ish for this novella! Which means what project comes next will be a roulette, lol. Who knows!I even did a bit more of the Musketeer Pirate story, closing out another chapter at 5k. Slowly, this world is starting to unfold, and it’s been a joy to write behind the scenes. Every ounce of it is pure inspiration.

What I’m editing/marketing: NONE OF THE THINGS! Well, mostly because I’m writing like a beast. Captivating Melody is still in edits, but it’s just paused while I push through on this steampunk story…which I can soon edit! Although, on a super cool note, I’m currently doing edits on the audio files for the Airship Named Desire audio book. I’m not going to lie, this narrator is so talented she’ll give you goosebumps. I haven’t fallen in love with a voice like this since FemShep.

Teaser of the week:

Line of the week:

“Because it took a stubborn technomancer willing to risk everything for those she cared about to remind me that I was capable of a little daring too.” He offered her a half-smile, trying to ignore the way his pulse quickened, at how his heart twisted with the intensity of the admiration he felt for her. He’d offered many, many lies in his day, but this was the solemn truth, and by the blazes, it felt glorious to let it free.

What story I’m working on: …what a different a week makes. That Steampunk with a Twist story ended up being the best choice to work on, because I’m already at 12k, which means I’m almost halfway through! The characters are lively, the setting strong and unique, and the story is resonating with me in a marvelous way. I also reached 4k with my YA fantasy project currently written as Musketeer Pirate in my Word doc.

What I’m editing/marketing: I did a broad sweep through for Captivating Melody, but now is time for some nitty gritty and the detailed reworking to rewrite and better this manuscript. Even though it had its flaws, I can say without fail, I still love the story. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, Waking for Winter came out last week!

Teaser of the week:

Line of the week:

The change of pace didn’t bode well for Ellie or his clockwork maid, but Silas had long learned to school his features. He flashed her a smile. “Scared of a little trot across town, Theo? I can understand if it might be too harrowing for a lady like yourself.”

She shot him an acidic glare, the worry stealing away from her features to be replaced by her usual annoyance. Good. He’d rather distract her for the time being.

“If anyone might have difficulty trekking about town, it’d be you in those fashionable shoes, Silas,” Theo shot back. “Did you have to break the backs of five servants to afford those things?”

“Your jealousy is duly noted,” he said, rising to his feet and brushing off his trousers at the knees. He leaned forward, extending a hand. “Now let’s get a move on with hunting down our quarry.”
