So, I decided to join in on the Patreon wagon! Mostly because I LOVE sharing my creativity with people, but my bills are also not paid on dreams alone! This is the link for my Patreon if you’d like to come and support: HERE!
I have 7 different levels of patronage, starting at Sleepy Kittens!
Access to sneak-previews of my latest work, plus cat pictures! (Who doesn’t love cat pictures?)
The later levels include awesomeness including TEA and SIGNED PAPERBACKS, but there are limited quantities of those tiers, so check ’em out fast!
Word Count: 1,740
What story I’m working on: Waking for Winter (Yeah, yeah, progress is slow going, but I’m making a major dent in Captivating Melody edits!)
What I’m editing/marketing: Captivating Melody like a boss! And I’ve been submitting the crap out of Night Awakens too.
Line of the week:
“After a lifetime of promises as broken as the Coke bottles lining the streets of this city, and the same jagged edge to all of his relationships, she’d been the first to offer genuine kindness and care, to the point where he hadn’t trusted it for a heartbeat.”
So, the tricky part about trying to get yourself out there is that you’re constantly working. You’re always pushing out new work, and with me, I don’t like to write and edit directly after. More often than not, if I’ve finished writing something, I let it sit, send it off to betas, and start something new as a distraction. That means a lot of balls to juggle. So here’s what you can anticipate this year, at least!
Solid Ground- My sci-fi romance short will be released with Boroughs Publishing Group on June 12th!
Soul Solution- Is done on my part and is with the senior editor. Very high chances it will be coming out this year.
Stolen Petals- I’ve begun submissions again, since Breathless Press closed before it released *tiny tears*
Winter Fairytale (still untitled)- Out with beta readers
Hunter Urban Fantasy (still untitled)- waiting on some reader responses and beginning to finish up on content edits and head into detailed edits zone
Red Skies Take Warning- querying still
Chasing Fate- on the backburner since it went through a round of rejections. I’m contemplating rewriting it to make it more marketable.
When Fire Ignites- I think I’m going to begin sending that out to publishers
As you can see, a lot’s in the air, on the burner, and off the burner. I’m currently tossing around another couple ideas of what to work on next, but at any point if When Fire Ignites or Red Skies Take Warning would get picked up, I’d switch off to working on the second in those series. Fingers crossed for more progress, and in the meantime, you have Solid Ground to look forward to!
Who said it and why?
The main character, Viola Embrees, in response to Edward’s sass. One of my favorite things about this novellas is the witty repartee between the two.
More for my own mental clarity than anything else, here’s what’s coming on the horizon book-wise.
Poisoned Apple–Picked up by Decadent Publishing, should be released within the year, or early 2015!
Stolen Petals- Steamy steampunk romance novelette, with some upcoming news!
A Soul Solution- Erotic paranormal romance novella which I’m currently shopping around for a publisher.
Red Skies Take Warning–dystopian pirate novel that is going through rounds of beta-readers at the moment! And then it’ll be time for some heavy editing.
Unnamed Sequel to Airship Named Desire–I’ve begun to write it, but I’m only a couple chapters in.
Hel on Earth- Picking up an old story and rewriting. Nordic urban fantasy, and I’m close to 10k into writing it!
….So sue me, I like to stay busy!
I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but hey, I feel like it needs to be said. Can we please, please, have male heroes in romance that aren’t these musclebound Alpha males?
Well, Kat, aren’t you a writer? Why don’t you do something about it? Short answer is, I’m trying. My stories hit about half and half, but when I do write strong males, I try to focus on other features/aspects too.
Why is this irking me in particular today? I picked up a paranormal erotica, looking for some fun smutty fun, and while it’s well written and entertaining, the lead male oozes so much machismo I want to gag. Perhaps it has to do with my own personality–I’m a tomboy and not quite shy about being direct and in charge. In fact, I’m a bit of a control freak, so these Alpha males push all the wrong buttons for me. Don’t get me wrong. I can understand some of the allure–girls want to read about a guy who’s going to take charge and rush in and save them–it’s a reprieve from the difficulties of everyday life. As a girl who HATES control taken from me, those type of guys don’t really work for me. While I may not be the majority, I’m sure I’m not the only one. Where are the emotionally self assured guys? The intelligently strong? It could also be me finding the wrong books, sure. I’m just asking for some variety here.
On my end, I’ll do my best to inject some of what I’m asking for in the stories I write. On the flipside though, a strong heroine goes a long way into tamping down that Alpha male-ism.
Let’s just say I’m a fan of variety.
For all you folks who loved An Airship Named Desire, I did start working on a part two. I’m not going full swing into writing it until my other stories are edited though (String of Pearls and Red Skies Take Warning).
Regardless, there’s a lot to look forward to on the horizon if you enjoyed By the Sea or Airship.
In regards to more romance, Poisoned Apple will be coming out, and if you like some young adult post apocalyptic stuff, Snatched might be up your alley.
In the meantime, I’ll keep working on more stories for you all to read!
