What story I’m currently working on:

I’ve shelved Eros Tales #3 at 33k because I’m really in a groove with Rehoboth Pact #2 and I’ve already got an idea of what I want for Rehoboth Pact #3. I’m at 36k in the manuscript, and since it’s going to be about 40-45k, I might be able to report in next week with finishing the novel! Sky, Aubs, and Kyle all stood out really strongly in my mind character-wise, which is what makes writing this novella trilogy so easily. Combine that with the fact that the setting is Wilmington which I’m familiar with, and it’s a recipe for a fun project.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Editing wise, I’ve mostly been working on other clients, not my own stuff, but in a few weeks, that could change, given Rehoboth Pact #2 nearing a conclusion. As for edits I’m waiting for from publishers, I’ll be looking for ones on Tempting Ballad, Of Alchemists and Arsonists, aaaaaaaand Midnight Heist. What is Midnight Heist, you ask? Well, that’s the brand new name for A Thief’s Crusade which is coming out with Hot Tree Publishing!!! I’m super excited to finally have news on that front, and I’m hoping everyone will enjoy the brand new Outlaws series.

“And you look like you’re destined for a cold shower,” Selina teased back, reverting to autopilot.

“I’m pretty sure my vibrator needs new batteries after the past few days,” Aubrey commented, the conspiratorial grin reaching her lips. Something just felt off tonight, like the tender, loyal, and protective woman she’d gotten to know had been locked away, and Selina didn’t trust it.

“Lucky for you, there are convenience stores and loose women everywhere,” Selina drawled, unable to help herself.

What story I’m currently working on:

Eros Tales #3 is stagnant at 33k, but I’m all right with that, because again, these final three books in the series won’t be coming out for another 4-5 years. As for YA Mirror Story and Paranormal Western, they’re both on hiatus, because I’ve been grooving with contemporary romance. What I’ve been REALLY jiving with has been Rehoboth Pact #2, which I started on a whim last week. I hit 24k and I’m already past the halfway point of the manuscript, with the rest of it planned out. Who knows–in a few more weeks, I might be able to have it complete!

What I’m editing/marketing:

Right now, my freelance editing work is through the roof, so I’m focusing on catching up with a lot of that. The next edits I’ll be getting from publishers are for Tempting Ballad and Of Alchemists and Arsonists. Confined Desires, A Thief’s Crusade, and Saving Throw are all on submission, but I may have some news on the horizon soon. This week, Of Coppers and Cracksmen came out! It’s reminding me of how much fun the Whitfield Family was to write! The novella trilogy was a blast. Next on the agenda after that is Tempting Ballad with Evernight Publishing in June and Waking for Winter with Soul Mate Publishing in September!

“Oh, I always walk like this,” Aubs said, trying to attempt casual, as if she wasn’t going crazy in Lustville over here.

Selina crooked a brow. “I’ve got a solution. Want to try some taffy? I bet I can change your mind.”

Aubrey snorted. “You’re going to have to try hard. I’ve tried it for years and never once has it had any allure.”

Selina finished the piece she was chewing on and turned to face Aubrey. Before she could click two and two together, Selina leaned in and pressed her lips to Aubrey’s. Her fingers swiped over Aubrey’s balled fist, loosening it as she kissed her. Once Aubs recovered from the surprise, she sank into the kiss. Selina’s warm tongue swept into her mouth, bringing with it the sweet tang of the salt water taffy.

Of Coppers and Cracksmen Release Day!

978-1-83943-391-7_OfCoppersandCracksmen_1500X2400

Of Coppers and Cracksmen is out TODAY!

Lawmen were never Ellie Whitfield’s type…until now.

When Ellie Whitfield’s accused of a crime she didn’t commit—though she’s committed many—only one man believes her. And he’s the unlikeliest man as well—Detective Bernard Taylor. He’s a handsome chap, but lawmen were never her type. At least, until now…

Bernard Taylor’s hunting down the Butcher of Broad Street, and though Ellie Whitfield’s led the coppers on a merry chase through Islington too many times, the woman’s no cold-blooded murderer. As they work together, he can’t help but be charmed by the vivacious Ellie, and before long, heated glances turn into something more explosive.

However, the closer they get to solving the murder, the deeper the serial killer draws them in—one misstep and they might be his next victims.

What story I’m currently working on:

I slowed down on Eros Tales #3 again. I’ve been struggling with it–not because the story or characters are uninteresting, but mostly because it’s tough to work up motivation when these books won’t be coming out until 2024. Still, I made some progress, hitting 33k. As for YA Mirror story, I ran out of steam fast for the same reason I ran out of steam with Paranormal Western–I haven’t been in the right mindset for paranormal/fantasy at the moment, though I still hit 3k in YA Mirror Story. What I put a major dent in on was Rehoboth Pact #2, which I started on a whim, even though I haven’t found a home for it yet. I hit 13k in the manuscript already, and I’m zooming toward the midpoint of the story.

What I’m editing/marketing:

I’ve got nothing of my own to edit, and the next edits I’ll be waiting for from publishers are the ones for Tempting Ballad and Of Alchemists and Arsonists. Right now, I’ve got Confined Desires, A Thief’s Crusade, and Saving Throw all out on submission, so it’s just the waiting game still. I’m getting ready for Of Coppers and Cracksmen to come out on May 19th–next week! Ellie and Bernard were so much fun to write. Next on the agenda after that is Tempting Ballad with Evernight Publishing in June and Waking for Winter with Soul Mate Publishing in September!

“Getting started early?” Selina asked, stepping up to the counter beside Aubrey. “And if I recall, there was no bragging involved on my part, just a firm reminder that you’re never going to see me dance.”

Selina ordered a pint of porter and flashed the bartender the sort of dazzling grin that never got aimed her way. Most of the time she received grimaces or eye rolls from the owner of Renegades.

“I think that sounds like a challenge to me,” Aubs said, sidling a little closer to Selina.

Selina arched a single carved brow. “Everything sounds like a challenge to you.”

What story I’m currently working on:

Whenever I binge-write and finish something, I usually take a break from writing for a little bit, even if it’s just a couple of days. So I focused on some projects from editing clients and only made it up to 20k with Eros #3. Still though, that’s 1/3 of the way through the book, so that’s saying something. The story’s still flowing decently, so I’ll probably focus on that until I hit a wall. I suppose I can continue working on the Eros Tales series too if that ends up being what I’m vibing with. It’s tough to gauge right now because so much is in limbo with submissions.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Alchemists and Arsonists is officially under contract! Which means that by January 2021, you’ll be able to nab the final book in the Whitfield Files series! I already finished the content edits to send to her, which also took up a chunk of my week. The other thing I started diving into heavily was Quarantine Romance for editing. But, Kat, you say. You just finished that last week! Yeah, I know. But with this quarantine still going on and a few beta reader responses back, I figure that’s enough to dive right in and start polishing away. A Thief’s Crusade and Saving Throw are still in limbo, so we’re just playing the waiting game on those books. If you’re looking for new releases, Rising for Autumn is also available for pre-order, set to come out next week! Next on the agenda is Of Coppers and Cracksmen is available for preorder now, set to come out May 19th!

“Hey Mitch?” Nell’s voice sounded down the hallway. Mitch brought his beer with him as he strode toward the bathroom, billows of steam emerging from the room. Nell’s hair was pulled into a low bun, strands plastered to her face. She had a towel wrapped around her slender curves which left little to the imagination. Nell bit down on her lip. “Do you happen to have a shirt I could borrow too? Apparently the only clothes I have packed are ones for going out, which will be useless to sleep in.”

Well if he hadn’t already been half-hard, the idea of her wrapped up in one of his shirts did the trick. He nodded. “Hold on a second.” Mitch jogged for his bedroom, hoping she didn’t catch the massive hard-on trying to punch through the seams of his jeans. He snagged the top t-shirt from his drawer and headed back to offer it over to Nell.

Of Alchemists and Arsonists is Under Contract!

steampunk-3006650_1920

Of Alchemists and Arsonists is now under contract with Totally Bound Publishing! Which means the last Whitfield Files book now has a home!

In setting up his apothecary emporium in Islington, Nate Whitfield knew he’d be facing all manner of cracksmen and scum—after all, his cousins were once a part of that underworld. However, when a stunner of a woman bursts into his shop to hide from her former gang, he can’t help but offer shelter.

Isobel Griffiths, an arsonist with a knack for setting blazes unseen, has wanted her freedom ever since her parents sold her to notorious gang leader, Jack Blair. Drawn into Isobel’s whirlwind, Nate is soon smitten…as is she.

Belle’s clever, but to escape the clutches Blair’s clutches, she’ll need more than wits—she’ll need Nate’s alchemy. If their plan doesn’t succeed, it could spiral into a gang feud deadly enough to tear all of Islington apart.

What story I’m currently working on:

Weeeeeeeeeeell, I finished writing Quara-Romance, hitting 41k in it! Lots and lots of words. So that’ll probably simmer while I wait on critiques for a week or so, and then I’ll be diving into it to edit it and hopefully get it off for submissions by May/June! Since that’s done, I’ll switch my focus back to Eros Tales #3, maybe even diving into Para-Western when I want to. I’ll kinda tread water with Eros Tales #3, because after that’s finished, I don’t really know what I’ll be starting next–it all depends on where my submissions are at.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Well, I already have some good news on the Alchemists and Arsonists front! My editor loved it, which means you’ll probably see it come out sometime later this year! I need to do a few content edits to send back to her though, so I’ll be working on those probably next week. As for A Thief’s Crusade and Saving Throw, I’m still in limbo, so we’ll seeeee. On the plus, my new releases are coming up sooner rather than later. Of Coppers and Cracksmen is available for preorder now, set to come out May 19th! Rising for Autumn is also available for pre-order, set to come out April 29th! And later in June, Tempting Ballad is projected to release!

“I love you,” Mia murmured, a few tears slipping down her cheeks. “I’ve always loved you, Sky. I just didn’t know if you’d ever be ready to take the leap. I know you miss her.”

Sky’s eyes heated up at that. The reason why Mia had never pushed her hard throughout this was because she’d always understood. Sky had locked herself into limbo the moment Jamie died, afraid that if she embraced true joy, true happiness without her sister, that somehow she’d be betraying her memory.

But she was beginning to learn—moving forward didn’t mean forgetting the past.

What story I’m currently working on:

Well, I kind of balanced getting some heavy writing and heavy editing done. I jumped back in on Eros Tales #3 and I’m currently at 15k on it, so if I keep a steady pace I can look to have it done in a month or so! As for quarantine romance, I’d be very shocked if I didn’t get the book finished this month, since I’m already at 25k and I’m not planning on it being a full length romance. For both books I’ve got vague outlines and I’m taking baby steps ahead as I try to figure out what I want to do. After those books are done, who knows what’s coming next. A lot depends on where my two series starters are in submissions (Outlaws #1 and Dungeons and Dating #1)

What I’m editing/marketing:

Because of all this time since I’m furloughed, I rolled through the edits on Of Alchemists and Arsonists, and the book is already submitted to my editor. So, fingers crossed for some good news with the final Whitfield Files book soon! On the Thief’s Crusade and Saving Throw front, I’m in a perpetual waiting cycle, so we’ll see where things go. I’m hoping to have some clearer answers by the end of the month. If you’re looking to grab some new reads, Of Coppers and Cracksmen is available for preorder now, set to come out May 19th! Rising for Autumn is also available for pre-order, set to come out April 29th! The entire car ride back from the airport had been silent.

Nell hadn’t wanted to bring the situation up because Greg claimed he had things he wanted to talk about, and yet he brimmed with quiet the entire time. She may as well have turned the music in her car off, because the powderkeg tension one breath away from explosion drowned out anything else.

She parked in the driveway of their house and her heart twisted tight. Nell had snuck a glance or two toward him, somehow hoping maybe he’d suffered a little from his actions—that he might’ve felt some remorse. However, Greg’s hair was neat and combed back, and the sharp lines of his features undeterred, as if he were heading to a business meeting, not the dissolution of his marriage. She’d once found him so attractive it was painful, and now she couldn’t look at him without disgust roiling through her stomach.

How fast it had all faded.

She felt stupid for falling for him in the first place. For not realizing that he was just using his sales tactics on her to get her into his bed, his heart, his home. She honestly couldn’t tell if he’d ever been in love with her or if it had always been a gambit.

Nell turned the keys in her ignition and hopped out of her car, making her way to the door.

“You aren’t going to help me with my bags?” Greg asked, his brow lifted.

The audacity.

“Get them yourself,” she said curtly, heading for the door. “We’ll talk inside.”

What story I’m currently working on:

I’ve currently paused on Eros Tales #3 because I’m in a groove with my quarantine romance, which I’ve hit 17k on. I’m not quite sure how long this will be, but I’m aiming for at minimum 40k. I think that’s pretty doable since we’re just getting into first kiss territory and there’s quite a bit to go over still. It’ll probably get physical really fast and they’ll miss some of the emotional necessities which will tie into the black moment after the quarantine is lifted. WOOO. I gots some tentative plans. #thatplantserlife

What I’m editing/marketing:

Well, since I got some beta reader feedback in on Alchemists and Arsonists, I’ve decided to dive into editing that full force. I’ve already rolled through content edits, and I’m through a significant amount of line edits, so we shall see. Who knows! Maybe next week I’ll be updating that the book’s ready to send off to the publisher! As far as upcoming reads go, Of Coppers and Cracksmen is available for preorder now, set to come out May 19th! Rising for Autumn is also available for pre-order, set to come out April 29th! And later in June, Tempting Ballad is projected to release!

Sky headed to the kitchen to grab her a glass of water for when Mia finished up. The way she looked with her muscles flexing, sweat dripping down her body, and her clothes plastered to her body turned Sky on more than anything. If she hadn’t been such a coward the other night, she wouldn’t just be here watching in the aftermath. Hell, instead, maybe she’d be the one peeling the fabric off of her and tasting the salt on her skin as she memorized Mia’s body with her mouth.

The thought had Sky wet in seconds, and she clenched her thighs together to try and distract herself. Nope, instead she sailed her away on her quickly sinking failboat and pushed the woman she’d lusted after for years away. Good move, champ.

Sky focused on getting the glass of water and pouring herself another mug of coffee that she heated up in the microwave. Even still, she noticed Mia in her peripheral, looking all sweaty and gorgeous, her hair pulled into a ponytail and stray strands glued to her forehead. The flush on her cheeks probably looked the same after she—

Oh Jesus fuck. Head out of the gutter.

The soft sound of Mia’s sharpened breaths wasn’t helping Sky at all. She might as well just pour the ice water over her now—maybe the shock might pull her out.

Tonight. She’d nut up and have a real talk with Mia tonight.

What story I’m currently working on:

Welp, I zoomed ahead with Alchemists and Arsonists, finishing the book at 39k! I’ll definitely have some work to do in the edits, but it honestly feels good to finish another series. (as far as completed series go, I have Take to the Skies and Tribal Spirits). With Eros Tales #3, I only ended up hitting 9k, because the reward to myself for finishing Alchemists and Arsonists was to write a F/F forced proximity romance to get out all my feels during this quarantine. Of course, I’m really feeling this book so I already hit 10k.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Right now I’m not editing anything…yet. I’ve started to get beta reader feedback in on Alchemists and Arsonists though, which means soon I’ll be diving into editing that, which is great, because then I can get it sent off to my publisher! While I currently have 4 books coming out this year, two are re-releases and I’d really like to have 4 new releases out for people. One of the new releases will be Tempting Ballad in June of 2020! And also Of Coppers and Cracksmen is already out for pre-order!

Mia shook her head. “I’m shocked you’re not swarmed. Successful chef with the best sense of humor on the planet and straight up gorgeous? I would’ve guessed you’d be turning down women left and right.”

“There’s nothing straight about me, babe,” Sky responded back, the huskiness in her voice sending a shiver down Mia’s spine. “But no,” she continued. “You forgot a workaholic who only really talks about her cats and completely crumbles when someone tries to hit on her. Not the best selling points.”

“Sounds perfect to me,” Mia responded, before she could catch herself. She couldn’t help but flirt with Sky, even though she knew she shouldn’t. This was her best friend, someone who she’d just reconnected with, and yet everything came out of her mouth suggestively. It didn’t help that ever since she’d cracked the code that she was bisexual, she’d realized what her very strong attraction to her best friend back in high school was.

Sky’s cheeks pinked as she wolfed down more of the pizza. For a few moments, they ate in silence, dodging the occasional paw from Shelley and Byron.
