Weekly Word Count #173

Word Count: 9508

What story I’m currently working on:

Slow but steady on Hypnotizing Beat! I hit 45k on it, and I’m continuing to make my strides forward. With any luck, I’ll finish it by the end of the month or at least by the end of November. However, since things are a bit slow for me lately and it’s still a slog with Hypnotizing Beat, I’m allowing myself to work on Forged Futures once I get my necessary word count done for the Discord’s Desire book. Because I really want to write Lana and Lucas’s story!

What I’m editing/marketing:

I’m currently diving into the final rounds of edits for The Lies We Weave AND even polishing up the query! Right now, I’m less in editing mode and more in buy-buy, sell-sell mode because Bustles and Bells, the steampunk Christmas anthology I’m a part of, is up for pre-order now, as is Forged Alliances which is set to release November 13th!

Line of the week:

Even with the nerves running up and down his arms and legs like flame, Trevor allowed himself to grin and laugh with his bandmates. It was hard not to with the ridiculous way Ren piped, headbanging up and down to his own music. Or how Kieran fondled that mic like he owed it a favor. Even Jett dove into the fray, sneaking his own brand of misheard lyrics into their song, pickle instead of fickle, or heartbroken as Hoboken.

Word Count: 6006

What story I’m currently working on:

I’m continuing to make my baby steps forward with Hypnotizing Beat! It’s moving so much more slowly than my Tribal Spirits books, but at the same point, I’m still putting progress into the book, and it’s getting easier as I go. I’m at 36k, so I’m hoping to reach 60k by the end of the month. If I really find my groove, I might be lucky enough to finish the book before November!

What I’m editing/marketing:

I’m editing The Lies We Weave right now, which is going smoother than I thought! However, I keep diving down more worldbuilding rabbit holes which have been super fun. On the positive, Bustles and Bells, the steampunk Christmas anthology I’m a part of, will be coming out for pre-order and sale this month! AND, Forged Alliances is already on pre-order, set to release November 13th!

Line of the week:

Those long fingertips, the ones she’d had dirty daydreams about, brushed along her chin. Danica looked up at him. Trevor didn’t say anything, but his gaze glowed with a hearthfire understanding that scorched right through her. His breathing had evened, and his hand no longer trembled. Danica’s chest felt hollowed, as if someone had clawed at her insides and scooped them out. They should be looking around for an escape, a distraction, anything. However, she could as much tear herself from Trevor’s gaze as she could escape a hurricane.

What story I’m currently working on:

Am I really closing in on the last 10k of this book? It’s been such a wild ride. It also may end up being a little over 60k since stretches of the book took longer than I thought. I’m currently at 47k and I haven’t even gotten into the last stretch of the book yet! Then I’ll need to take a short break from Tribal Spirits to jam out some more words on Hypnotizing Beat. Yet, I’ve got so many ideas for the final two books of the series, eeeeeee.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Legends of the Veil came out last week, and The Airship Also Rises is on pre-order, so August is out to a rip-roaring start! I’ve already submitted An Airship Carol to my editor as well, so now I’ve switched attention back to Musketeer Pirates. It’s moving slowly, but I finally hit the midway point of this baseline edit. There’s still a lot more work to do, once I finish this massive overhaul, but getting through it would put a huge dent into things.

Ava shrugged, slipping onto her feet as she grabbed the tube for the pills and popped them back into it, snapping the lid back in place. “It’s part of the job description. I wouldn’t have taken you on if I couldn’t handle it.” She walked over to him and pressed the pills into his palm. “Paypal me the funds. You’ll get faster service if you pay in advance, FYI.”

Jer grabbed the pills, staring down at the bottle. Ava still stood in front of him, not moving away. Her brows drew together, and she passed him an irritated look.

“Are you waiting for me to perform a dance or something? I need my nap, stat. That’s your cue to take the cute little bike you drive and haul on out of here.”

Jer didn’t hide his grin at that. “You’re sort of standing right in my way.”

Ava opened her mouth and then closed it before she strode back over to her couch. “Right, that would help. Good meeting you, Jeremiah Taylor. If your pack needs a shaman, shoot me a text. I won’t respond to any phone calls.”

Weekly Word Count #159

Word Count: 2517

What story I’m currently working on:

I knoooow, my word count is still pretty terrible. I promise next week I’ll do better. Because I finished Taking Root, I was able to pop open Forged Contracts and begin that again! I’m up to 12k in Hypnotizing Beat and 3k for Forged Contracts. I am super excited to get back into these books and start writing again. It’s been so many long stretches of editing that I have been pushing writing off for awhile, so I think I’ve recharged enough to dive back into things.

What I’m editing/marketing:

I finished editing Taking Root and started sending it out! That’s what I spent most of last week doing–finalizing this book! Also, fingers crossed on books 3 and 4 that they get picked up with Soul Mate as I’ve got both on submission! On top of that, you can get both books in the Take to the Skies series for under 5 dollars! Catch the sale while you can! Now that my editing schedule is free, I can dive back into Musketeer Pirates, and I’m also formatting the final Take to the Skies book, The Airship Also Rises. If you’re waiting for Colors of a Soul, my Little Mermaid retelling, pre-order Legends of the Veil!

Teaser of the week:

“The way he spoke to me, the admiration in his gaze, reminded me so, so much of myself staring at Morris, eyes reaching for the stars.”

Line of the week:

“If you keep burning the midnight oil like this, I’m going to dub you the Ghost of Guitarist’s Past,” Ky set to yanking down the window behind the seats. Even though they’d parked in a dump of a lot with a bunch of beater vehicles and sketch neighbors, those desperate neons from the strip still tried their damndest to cut through the early morning grey.

“Who can sleep with the way you and Liz go at it?” Trevor muttered, reaching for one of Ren’s crumpled shirts he left strewn all through the floor of the RV. Trevor tossed it to Kieran. “Do us a favor and cover yourself up. The adoring fans aren’t here to see the show.”

Kieran flashed him a grin, his gold eyes sparking with that new relationship thrill, where everything was sunshine on the Mississippi, and problems were a snap to fix. Not that he could blame his bandmate for the infectious excitement. Kieran had fought hard to win Liz over to the commitment side. Trevor couldn’t imagine that sort of closeness with anyone. The thought of it settled around his throat, the phantom sensation one that lingered through the years.

Ky sniffed the shirt and wrinkled his nose. “Otherworld be damned, did Ren shit on this? You can deal with some skin, brother.”

What story I’m currently working on:

Well, Taking Root is just flowing from my fingertips. I’m really adoring this book at the moment, and even more than the main characters themselves, I’m falling in love with the whole Dukas family. I really hope I get the opportunity to write their entire series. I just hit 34k, so I’m over the halfway point and heading towards a lot of fun scenes. As for Hypnotizing Beat, it’s coming more slowly, but it’s still moving along! I got to 3k and finished the first chapter, so I’m delving into Danica’s perspective next.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Shocking everyone, I’m waiting on a lot of things at the moment. Loose Id finally pulled my Philadelphia Coven Chronicles and Forged Alliances, so I’m hoping to find a home for them sooner rather than later. I sent a bunch of submissions out early in the month, so I’m crossing my fingers that responses will start arriving soon. I’m on the final edit for the fae novella for Legends of the Veil, which I’m realizing really needs a title. And if you haven’t checked out Of Tinkers and Technomancers yet, you have your chance! Gaslights and Graves went live last week!

Adrian leaned back in his seat again and tossed the stack of envelopes off his lap. This talk had ripped all the scabs wide open and doused them in alcohol. And as much as his ears pounded and his chest ached like he was drowning, the first bit of cinnamon warmth whispered through his veins.

What story I’m currently working on:

Weeeeell, I don’t know if you noticed my lack of update last week? That’s because I was in PARIS. An amazing goddamn trip. And while there, I got amazing news that changed the trajectory of what I’m working on! Captivating Melody, book one in my Discord’s Desire series, is now picked up by Evernight Publishing, which means book two is a go! I just started Hypnotizing Beat and got up to a thousand words in! Since I’ve gotten home, I also plunged back into Taking Root and got up to 14k into the book!

What I’m editing/marketing: Well now, I started submitting out A Card of Shadows, what I’ve been referring to as The Wanderers, so it’s currently the waiting game. While I wanted to dive back into the edits on Musketeer Pirates, the fae novella comes first, so I started putting a major dent into that! I also scheduled edits for June, so that puts me on a nice and solid timeline for it. In upcoming news, the other steampunk boxset I’m in, Gaslights and Graves, is available for pre-order and goes live next Tuesday!!! An important announcement too: on May 7th, Loose Id is going into official shutdown and will begin pulling books from retailers. If you want to get my Philadelphia Coven Chronicles series or Forged Alliances, this will be your only chance for some time.

Teaser of the week:

_Each step forward offered a better view of the crystal walls ahead, the castle appearing like something out of a fairytale._.jpg

Line of the week:

A group of college age girls giggled from the other side of the bar, trying to flash him looks they deemed seductive. Trevor had received enough of them to become one jaded motherfucker. Unlike Jett and Ren who constantly whored themselves out, Trevor was a little more careful with who he took to bed. After all, no amount of energy he could siphon from a good fuck would fix the hopelessness that threatened to choke him every waking day. He spent his time waiting for the inevitable—to end up in that cell again.

What story I’m currently working on:

Thus far, I’ve been really good at staying true to my promises! The fae novella IS finished and out with beta readers! It ended at around 21k, so I just blasted through the rest of it. Of course though, that leaves this big open hole of WHAT DO I WRITE NEXT? However, I think Cupid’s Cafe answered that question, as I started putting the first couple lines down on Lex and Tessa’s story.

What I’m editing/marketing: TOO MUCH. So, this week, my editor actually got the Airship edits back to me AND I turned them back around. OMG. So of course, I’m continuing to stampede through the Wanderers edits as well AND MIGHT EVEN HAVE THEM FINISHED BY NEXT WEEK. Ahhhhh. But that’s not all, folks. My young adult fairytale, A Reflection of Ice came out on Tuesday, huzzah huzzah. And then literally a day later, Corsets and Cogs hit the e-shelves!!!! Now is definitely the time to buy, as it’s only going to stay 99 cents for a week! And of course, the other steampunk boxset I’m in, Gaslights and Graves, is available for pre-order!

Some days, Tessa managed to keep the flames to a minimum, but others, that inferno raged out of control. Today classified as grade A dumpster fire with an extra splash of gasoline.

What story I’m currently working on:

Hopefully, next week I’ll be reporting in that the fae story is finished! I had a little bit of a slowdown with the push for finishing Airship, so I switched to that until I finished. I’m having so much fun with this paranormal romance though, and the end of it is all plotted out and I’m already at 16k, which is already past the 15k minimum. This is the fae story for the Legends of the Veil anthology that is coming out in August!

What I’m editing/marketing: GUYS! Next week, A Reflection of Ice is coming out, and it’s already available for pre-order! I managed to fulfill my ballsy promise from last week, since the Airship edits are finished, and I turned my manuscript in to the editor! It was a massive, intense push though. I also cried again when I did the final pass on this book. It’s giving me all of the emotions. If you’re looking for a steampunk read before August, Gaslights and Graves is available for pre-order!

Line of the week:

“What are you, the mayor?” Jason asked as they reached the parking lot for Oberon’s Inn where his BMW waited for them. He clicked the locks open and slipped into the driver’s side, Kelsey taking the passenger seat. The sight of her there jarred him—for so long, it had been Sadie in that spot, but after that spin of vertigo, his world righted again.

“A little politeness never killed anyone,” Kelsey sniffed as she leaned back into the seat. “Besides, most of them are regulars at my café.”

“That’s it—the siren’s call of coffee,” he responded with a grin as he pulled out of the parking lot. “So are you just going to navigate the way there?”

“Yep.” She showed teeth with her smile. “Get onto the highway. And technically, it’s the undine’s call of coffee in this case. Let’s not give the sirens any extra credit.”

Weekly Word Count #144

Word Count: 5500

What story I’m currently working on:

I’m back to a normal pace! Which means I’ll probably be able to finish this fae story by next week! After hitting the wall for so long with the other concept, this one is a cork popped free and I’m just flowing with it. I love paranormal romance, and this is a sweet, breezy one in a similar vein to By the Sea. I’m now at 9k on this story, and while the minimum for the anthology is 15k, I’m thinking I’ll probably end up at 20k. This is the fae story for the Legends of the Veil anthology that is coming out in August!

What I’m editing/marketing: Well, shit. A Reflection of Ice is coming out on March 27th, and it’s already available for pre-order! I’m going to make a ballsy promise with the Airship edits, that I’ll be finished them by the time I report in next week and have them sent to the editor. I’m close though. In the final 20 pages for the vibrancy edits I do, and a couple chapters in already for the grammatical and read aloud edits. If you’re looking for more fun, Gaslights and Graves is available for pre-order! And it’s sales galore this week, with both A Tale of Two Airships and Snatched available for only 99 cents!

What story I’m currently working on:

So, I had something kind of funny happen this week. I was stepping into working on the fae manuscript and MY GOD was I hitting a wall. Nothing was clicking for me, not even the beginning of this story. I just couldn’t find the pulse. So I decided instead of trying to do an urban fantasy, I’d write a paranormal romance–I like that territory. Obviously, the strategy worked, because I’m 3,500 words in on the new story, where I’d only reached 1,500 in total on the other one, after a week or two of trying to work at it. This is the fae story for the Legends of the Veil anthology that is coming out in August!

What I’m editing/marketing: It’s now March, and I already knocked out the line edits for A Reflection of Ice on Tuesday evening. Woot, woot! There should be a pre-order going up soon for this book, since it releases on March 27th! I’ve been working pretty hardcore on the Airship edits, so I’m down to the final two: vibrancy edits and grammatical/read aloud edits. I’m getting closer and closer, so I can guarantee this will be done by the end of March. Gaslights and Graves is available for pre-order! Nab a copy now before the May release!
