“Don’t tell me you’re nervous.” He arched an eyebrow as a steady stream of smoke escaped his lips. That man somehow managed to say the exact words to get under her skin.
“Not in the slightest.” She clenched her jaw before she marched inside.
Brendan and Neve banter! I love it the way they interact, even when it’s prickly.
Her neck itched from too much sun. She’d been out here two hours, pacing around her cul-de-sac one hundred thirteen times since she’d returned from her shift at the café and, so far, had accomplished nothing. Her stomach clenched with the stark hollowness of what would happen the moment she walked through that door. Inside, Veronica would be waiting. As much as she hated confrontation and knew in her gut trouble was brewing, she’d have to deal with her stepmother at some point and was better off handling this mess without a bad case of sunburn. Neve let out a weary sigh then trekked up the paved walkway to her front door. Time to face the beast.

Snow White’s a goth and Prince Charming’s a jerk.
On Neve’s eighteenth birthday, her stepmother kicks her out. A group of diner rats offer her refuge—including Brendan, who offers his couch for her to crash on. But the more time she spends with him, the more he confuses her. One second, he’s kissing her. The next he’s pushing her away.
Believing her life has reached rock bottom, Neve struggles to ditch her “damaged girl” label. But when she uncovers the truth about her life, she’s rocked to her very foundation. Will Neve be able to hold on to the good things coming her way, or will her bad luck poison everything?

“Staring at the twinkling sky taunting her newfound lot in life, she raised her middle finger in the air. ”
Neve’s one hell of a fighter–I can’t wait until Poisoned Apple is ready to hit e-shelves!
While working on the Poisoned Apple manuscript for Decadent Publishing, I fell in love with the main character all over again. For me, a lot of what’s kept me at a distance from the Snow White story is the passivity of it. Snow White’s stepmom’s a bitch! Sucks to be Snow. Snow White’s life is threatened by said evil stepmom! Damn, still sucks to be Snow. When she does find some solace with the dwarfs, the stepmother ruins it again, to the point where she’s comatose! Man, shit just rains all over Snow, doesn’t it?
What’s never covered in these fairytales though is the massive amount of damage that level of tragedy does to someone’s psyche. This isn’t just your average let’s place a Snow White veneer over a romance story. This is plunging into the depths of all the hell she’s been through and how her mind ticks. This is plowing through the pain, the loss, the grief, and still finding a girl willing to fight. Neve’s not just some tough girl–she’s a survivor.
We’ve been told time and time again, poor, poor Snow White. But hey, writing’s all about showing, not telling, right? I wanted to show the side of her that isn’t covered in the fairy tales–the anger, the hurt, and most of all, how she blames herself. Because when a child grows up feeling that unwanted, there’s a lot of self-hatred involved. Yet despite all that, she still musters up enough strength to keep going.
Needless to say, I’m really excited to share this story.
Soon to be hitting your e-bookstores, here’s the cover for Poisoned Apple done by Cora Graphics!
Snow White’s a goth girl and Prince Charming’s a jerk. At least, that’s how this not-so-fairy-tale begins, on Neve’s eighteenth birthday when the child support dries up and her stepmother kicks her out.
Keep your eyes peeled–in the upcoming weeks, I’ll be posting sneak previews and more!
