Music Monday- Forged Decisions

Return of Music Monday! This week I’m taking over with Forged Decisions, and next week, Landra will be talking inspiration for her book Talent for Trouble!

1. Whatever it Takes- Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons is a favorite of mine for this series in general, and Whatever it Takes has this liquidity to the song, this driving beat that makes it perfect for a lot of the action and fight scenes. I loved listening to it while Finn and Navi were hot on the trail of the Landsliders’ meth distribution, but also some of the emotional beats as well.

2. Summer Air- Italobrothers

One of the things that got me in the mood to write the summer atmosphere of book two was this song. I felt like it captured the bit of carefree that comes with the warmer temperatures as well as the yearning that was prevalent in this book.

3. Ghost Town- Adam Lambert

This song had a lot of the past in it that I thought fit both Navi and Finn’s characters well. Finn is struggling with the past murder of his parents, while Navi constantly wars with her past as Tribe, harboring a bit of resentment towards the lonely life she’s forced to lead.

4. Despacito- Justin Bieber, Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee

This super sensual song was really fun to listen to during some of the scorching scenes that happen throughout the book. Finn and Navi had grade A chemistry from the start, and even before the book begins, they’ve already hooked up, so both of them are just prolonging the inevitable.

5. Mouth of the River- Imagine Dragons

The joyful aspect of this song makes me think of unity and of finding direction. Finn struggles throughout this book in limbo of his old position in the pack changing and looking inward to find a new direction. The character’s inner turmoil while tough at the start grows into something beautiful when he finally makes his choice at the end.

What’s your next project on the horizon: The final book in the Tribal Spirits series! Book three comes out April 16th, and book four is currently in edits, so we’re gearing up to finish the series this year!

Dive into book two, Forged Decisions, now! Or begin at the start with Forged Alliances!

When Finn falls for Navi, a member of the East Coast Tribe, he’ll have to choose between the pack and family who saved him and the unforgettable woman who’s made her mark.

Ever since Sierra and Dax mated, forming their alliance, Finn has been restless in his position as beta for the Red Rock pack. So, when Navi, the gorgeous, lethal member of the East Coast Tribe, conscripts him to help break up the Landsliders’ drug-running ring, he leaps on the opportunity. As they work together, their attraction deepens to more than comrades and far more than a one-night stand. Except Navi isn’t sticking around town forever and Finn has his own responsibilities tethering him to the Red Rock pack.

When the trail to the drug ring leads them to the man who murdered Finn’s parents, Finn’s forced to confront the fears he’s buried and, in the process, the connection between him and Navi grows scorching and unforgettable. However, with an underground meth lab to bust and his parents’ murderer to take down, Finn throws his heart and soul into the fight, because he knows, even if he survives this, he’ll be forever marked by the goodbyes to follow.

Forged Alliances Release Day!

ForgedAlliances_PromoSquareTB_outnow

So much can change in a year. Around this time last year, Forged Alliances had just come out with Loose Id, and I was full of excitement to be pushing forward on a brand new series. And then….December hit, and Loose Id announced their closure. While my second book was on submission, of course. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t devastate me. I loved working with that publisher, and I was so sad to see them go. On top of that, since the official closure wouldn’t hit until June, I wasn’t about to go and write the third book until I found a new home for them.

So, I waited.

I expected it to be a long time until I could find a home for this series, however, Totally Bound happened to open up submissions in June, and I leapt on the opportunity. I had long been interested in that publisher, but they’d been closed. In a sweep of serendipity, I submitted Forged Alliances, and it got accepted. At once, I dove into book three again, desperate to dive back into this world. I am so in love with these shifters and this series, and I’m so thrilled to bring them back to you with book one, Forged Alliances.

Sierra Kanoska fought hard for her position as wolf alpha of the Red Rock pack, and intruders in her territory receive the full brunt of what her claws, fangs and smarts can accomplish. So, when Dax Williams, de facto alpha of the Silver Springs pack, pays an unwelcome visit, Sierra’s ready to toss him out. However, the pack elders sabotaged Dax’s fight for alpha against his brother, driving him from his lands. Sierra hates underhanded crap like that, so she agrees on an alliance.

As they work together, she witnesses an alpha who wants to do right by his pack, not just a cocky wiseass. Their growing attraction blazes hot, but the moment she and Dax lock lips, a mating bond emerges. Sierra sure as hell isn’t ready to share that intimate connection with a stranger and the thought of forever sends Dax running.

Before they can talk, the Tribe commanding the East Coast shifters arrives to settle the dispute. Dax and his brother’s punishment for their pack’s civil war is a free-for-all on their lands. Not only does he have to defeat his brother, but any challenger in the region. Despite Dax and Sierra’s initial resistance, his wily charm relaxes her control-freak tendencies while her steadfast support bolsters his strength. Yet every new opponent places their newfound relationship under siege—one misstep, one wrong blow in the ring, and Dax could leave in a bodybag.

What story I’m currently working on:

Slow and steady! I’ve been pushing forward with Hypnotizing Beat, but I also got sidetracked the past couple of days with edits, so that put heavy writing days on the backburner. However, I did hit my goal of 30k in Hypnotizing Beat. I will finish this book by the end of the year, I swears it. I’m hoping to at least hit 60k with this book in October, if not complete it. If I don’t complete it next month, then I’m going to be finishing it in November to kickstart NaNoWriMo.

What I’m editing/marketing:

So, the reason I slacked harder on writing Hypnotizing Beat was because I started burning through edits on Forged Contracts…to the point that I finished them last night and sent in the submission. Fingers crossed for some good news, guys! Now that I have that edit out of the way, I can focus most of my editing mojo on The Lies We Weave, which I’m determined to finish this year. I’m super excited for next week, since the pre-order for Forged Alliances goes live!!! I absolutely can’t wait to relaunch this series!

Danica slipped beside him, craning forward to peer into the water. “So, what’s your guess, guitar boy? Think it’s in the middle of this muck? I’m happy to go splashing in the kiddie pool after the dive through Shark Central Station.”

Trevor lifted a brow. “I’ve been relegated to guitar boy now?” He couldn’t help the grin that rose to his lips. He’d love to chalk it up to her leannan sidhe charm, but he’d met plenty. Danica had an effortless ability to make him laugh, her brand of sharp wit and weird something he doubted he’d ever tire of.

“Yep,” she responded. “Better pull out the stops to wow me if you want a bump up on the nickname list.” Danica gripped the golden stones framing the pond as if she prepared to launch into the water.

What story I’m currently working on: Since Forged Alliances will probably be coming out in a month or two, I’m definitely making headway on book two, Forged Decisions. I hit 25k today and will probably keep trucking along on it the rest of the week. Finn and Navi’s story is really starting to resonate with me, and I am loving writing it. I also put another thousand or so words into the Musketeer Pirates story, almost hitting 8k! And on the positive, I’m starting a new series concept to submit to a proposal call and also to write once I’m done Forged Decisions. Guys, it’s VIKINGS. And Loki runs a bar called the Asgard Lounge. And I already got the first chapter done, almost rounding out the first 3k. WOO!!!

What I’m editing/marketing: Well now, I got my Steampunk with a Twist story back from beta readers, so I’m editing at a leisurely pace. It’s absolutely lovely. Also still waiting on the Airship Named Desire audio book to release. EEEE. Also, Captured Memories has a projected release date of October 17th. Excite. and Forged Alliances has a tentative release date of September 19th, but honestly it’s just going to be a matter of how quickly Tamzin and I work. EEEEEE.

Line of the week:

“I’m not sorry for giving a fuck about you, Navi,” he said, crossing his arms in front of his chest as he leaned against the side of the car, close enough she could feel the heat emanating off his body. “You’ve got strength in spades, but there’s so much more to you than the burden you’re shouldering, sweetheart. I’m more interested in the woman standing before me whose single moment of softness is worth a thousand from anyone else.”

She opened her mouth, but the words dried on her tongue. The intensity sparking in Finn’s hazel eyes, the muscles of his neck taut as he argued with her, and the way his thick brows furrowed with the same irritation that flowed through her—all of it had her ensnared. He was supposed to be the same as all the others, a no-strings-attached fling. And yet the more she got to know Finn Kelly, the more she connected with him, fought with him, and talked with him, she couldn’t help but like the bastard.
