A Reflection of Ice Release Day!

AReflectionofIce-HighRes

Get your copy of this dark young adult fairytale HERE!

Lyra plunges into the woods for refuge, leaving the discovery of her stepmother’s affair and the woman’s ensuing rage back at the trailer park. However, a mysterious ringing in the forest leads her to a different sort of sanctuary, a castle of ice with a lonely prince living in his solitary kingdom.

While the castle holds haunting ballrooms, vast gardens, and rooms filled with more treasures than a museum, the cobwebs in dark corners whisper a different story. The longer she stays, the more she yearns to return to her rusty old home. Yet once she uncovers the secret of the ice prince in his castle, if she doesn’t find a way to escape soon, she never will.

Inspiration for A Reflection of Ice

Lebendig im Spiegel / Tot in der Wirklichkeit

So, I realized I kept a Pinterest board while I was working on this story, and I thought I’d share some of the inspiration pics. One of the toughest things for someone who isn’t visual (me) is trying to delve into deeper detail and figure out the spatial elements of a scene, so I tend to use a lot of visual cues. The first picture has to do with the motif of mirrors in the book–creepy, right?

There was once a maid in waiting who lived in the second-tallest tower in the castle...

Most of A Reflection of Ice takes place in an ice castle, so obviously, it was important to get a good visual sense of the place.

But it's a castle! Made of ice! This is like my life!! ;)

This is a little more of an artistic variant than real life example, both super helpful in their own way!

Orput song on repeat and do this workout 4 or 5 times for a good cardio workout. copyright Erica Wadzinski ;)

And of course, I needed lots and lots of imagery and sense memory of SNOW!

If you like dark, wintry fairytales, A Reflection of Ice is available for pre-order here! It releases on March 27th!

Travel Tuesdays- Snowy Park

Key thing about taking an adventure doesn’t have to do with going to the most remote place on the planet or most talked about. The spirit of an adventure is exploring somewhere new, even if it’s just new to you.

So for me and my husband this past Valentine’s day, our date consisted of a wintry walk through a local park in Pennsylvania. While I had explored this place before, something about the light slow drifting down made the walk positively magical. The cold pinks your cheeks, chills your ears, and the fluffy snowflakes clung to my hair, my clothes–everything. But with so few people on the trails, the pale accumulations were pristine, and the snowfall didn’t accumulate so much as to deter our walk, just make it a bit more treacherous. Of course, that just makes it all the more thrilling.
