Throwback Thursday: Soul Solution

BeyondFairytales_SoulSolution

For Erik Anderson, the Copenhagen line is his curse. He takes the train every night en route to collect souls. Like any lovelorn fool, he bargained his own long ago, and now pays the price—a lifetime of loneliness as a grim reaper. Stay distant—that’s been his mantra and what keeps him sane.

Until Mina Castner drops into his life like a whirlwind, one spilled drink leading to staying up until dawn with the woman. He believed one night couldn’t hurt, but he sorely underestimated her determination. Every encounter between them is reprieve from the guilt of reaping souls every night, but it can’t last. Even if she sparks long buried feelings, and even if her sheer presence intoxicates him, he can’t let this continue. For humans, his touch is poison, and if he slips up, it could cost her life.

What story I’m full *steam* ahead on this steampunk story! And by that, I mean by the next update it’s going to be finished. I’m at 28k and I’m only projecting about 30ish for this novella! Which means what project comes next will be a roulette, lol. Who knows!I even did a bit more of the Musketeer Pirate story, closing out another chapter at 5k. Slowly, this world is starting to unfold, and it’s been a joy to write behind the scenes. Every ounce of it is pure inspiration.

What I’m editing/marketing: NONE OF THE THINGS! Well, mostly because I’m writing like a beast. Captivating Melody is still in edits, but it’s just paused while I push through on this steampunk story…which I can soon edit! Although, on a super cool note, I’m currently doing edits on the audio files for the Airship Named Desire audio book. I’m not going to lie, this narrator is so talented she’ll give you goosebumps. I haven’t fallen in love with a voice like this since FemShep.

Line of the week:

“Because it took a stubborn technomancer willing to risk everything for those she cared about to remind me that I was capable of a little daring too.” He offered her a half-smile, trying to ignore the way his pulse quickened, at how his heart twisted with the intensity of the admiration he felt for her. He’d offered many, many lies in his day, but this was the solemn truth, and by the blazes, it felt glorious to let it free.

What story I’m working on: ….so, the Cupid’s Cafe story is finished. Sometimes things just flow, and this story…well, flew. Which means I’ve got an empty slot for what story to tackle next…I *might* have penned the first lines to the final Airship book, The Airship Also Rises…

What I’m editing/marketing: I’ve still been paring away at Future King edits while waiting on beta-reader responses, but I’m moving forward one baby step at a time. I’ll also probably be plunging into Cupid’s Cafe edits soon, mostly because it’d be nice to get something out the door. Once I get lines in for Waking for Winter, I’ll be entering full fledged work mode on marketing, since the release keeps getting closer and closer!

Line of the week:

“Some days, the sheer amount of enemies we attracted made me question if maybe our crew was a little too trigger happy. That maybe we’d started pissing in too many pots without thinking of the consequences.

But then I remembered that most folks couldn’t hold to a basic code of honor if it killed them. And kill them we did. Repeatedly.”

Holidays Around the Corner

While it’ll be awhile before I’m getting holly jolly and tossing up my Christmas decorations (by awhile, I mean AFTER Thanksgiving), one thing I realized I don’t have the luxury to do is dilly dally with prepping gift baskets for my books and tea. And while my son would rather have one of the super cool keychain knives he happened upon, my fans tend to be more demanding. After all, not only do people start shopping early, but once December hits, I’ll need to be able to ship those things at a moment’s notice, not wait for a shipment to come in. So, in a stroke of extra-preparedness, I made a pre-order form for the absolute cutest gift box for readers.

Kat’s Box of Wonderment

Kay, first off, that sounds ridiculously dirty, so ignore my ridiculous title. What’s inside the gift boxes is SUPER cool. I’m going to offer three selections based on my three Decadent Publishing novellas: By the Sea, Soul Solution, and Poisoned Apple. Of course, a signed copy of the book will be the first piece to this puzzle. Next is a bag of the looseleaf tea blended for each book (By the Sea: floral mint herbal, Poisoned Apple: tart apple honeybush, Soul Solution: pear jasmine green tea). And then the unique and time-takey part of this endeavor is the never-before-seen, framed winter themed poem included with each one. Altogether, each aspect of this is a unique delight, something you can’t just tug off the shelves at Target.

Bonus factor? The gift boxes are 15% off if you pre-order before December 1st!

What story I’m working on: Waking for Winter

What I’m editing/marketing: Captivating Melody AND Rising for Autumn. WORKITY WORK WORK WORK. As for marketing, I’m pimping Soul Solution this week, what with the 99 cents deal on the Kindle book as well as the brand new audio book edition narrated by Eddie Caiazzo!

Line of the week:

She paused, her lips pursed as she looked him up and down. “If you’re too tired and need to go nap though, I’ll happily handle this by myself.”

He shot her a glare. “Like hell. You’re not prancing into potential danger without me.”

She stuck out her tongue. “Boo, I was hoping to get you off my ass for a couple minutes.”

The girl didn’t think twice before she spoke, something he ruthlessly took advantage of. A wolfish grin spread across his face. “An ass that fine is tough to ignore, darling.”

Mid-Year Review

“Stop smiling like a psycho at everyone.” Jev pursed her lips. “They already think you’re a nutjob anyway.”Scrying for SummerbyKatherine McIntyre

So…what’s been brewing this year? Already, January feels like a decade ago, and I’ve been working nonstop in an exhilarating thrill ride of writing, reading, and editing. Back in Jan/Feb, I wrote the sequel to Hunting for Spring, book two of the Philadelphia Coven Chronicles–Scrying for Summer. And now, it’s set to release with Loose Id on August 9th! Made me a happy girl! …Just realized that Hunting for Spring only released this past January!! Holy hell, time moves fast.

Also, the second book of Take to the Skies, the long awaited sequel of An Airship Named Desire–A Tale of Two Airships, will be out in August as well! It’s currently with my editor, and I’m more than thrilled about this. It’s more breathtaking adventures with Bea and the crew, and based on the responses of my beta-readers who loved the first book, it more than holds up.

On top of that, I finished another manuscript, Night Awakens (which is now out with beta readers), and I’m working on submitting The Iron Legacy to agents. Wish me luck, guys!

New works aside, there have been other avenues to check out older releases! This year, I re-released An Airship Named Desire and Snatched, so now paperback copies are available. And Decadent Publishing released Poisoned Apple, Soul Solution, and By the Sea in paperback as well! Shiny shiny paperbacks. In the audio sphere, Mae Sally Rouge-Pax did a smash up job with Stolen Petals, and will be applying her talents to An Airship Named Desire audio book as well!

The first half of the year was booming, but there’s so much more to look forward to. I’m hoping to finish editing Night Awakens this year and prep it for submissions, as well as finish my current WIP, Captivating Melody (fae rockstar romance, for the win!). After that, I’m planning on plunging into book 3 of the Philadelphia Coven Chronicles, Rising for Autumn, and you can bet after that, I’ll be working on the next Take to the Skies book.

BeyondFairytales_SoulSolution

My paranormal romance novella got nominated for the Reader’s Choice Awards over at The Romance Reviews, which I’m super stoked about! It needs 50 nominations before the end of March to make it to the next round though! If anyone could take a half second to follow the link and click the nominate button, I will supply an endless amount of cat pictures! (Okay, so maybe I do that anyway…)

Scintillating Sunday Blog Hop!

Today I’m going to share a snippet from Soul Solution, my most recent release with Decadent Publishing. If you enjoy, add it to your TBR list at Goodreads, or get a copy HERE!

She waited a beat, and a certain curiosity gleamed in her eyes, one he knew well. Would he follow? Those inquisitive eyes of hers asked the question, and even with the slight hunch of her shoulders, she begged to be pursued. Once upon a time, he might’ve chased her and tumbled her in the sheets with the promise of more in the future. However, she’d placed her bets on the wrong sort of man. A soul collector couldn’t have those attachments.

“I’ll walk you out,” he offered. Even though this could never turn into anything, he’d take whatever remaining moments he could get with this intriguing woman.

He followed her out into the early dawn sunshine, which coated every car and leaf in liquid amber. If he were still up at this hour on any other day, he’d be holed up in his apartment with a bottle of whiskey, trying to chase the demons away. If only every night could be like this one.

Erik leaned against the railing, debating whether he should walk off before he’d have something to regret later. The longer he watched her smile, listened to her lilting laugh, the more he knew she was trouble.

He stuck his hands into his pockets. “This is good-bye then.”

Amusement lifted her eyebrows. Instead of turning and leaving, she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him in for a hug. The press of her body against his shocked his system; he hadn’t realized how much he’d missed a woman’s embrace all these years. Her warm skin brushed against his, sending his senses into overdrive. The scent of jasmine fogged his mind, already overloaded from the simple touch of a person after so long.

A jolt of ice water flooded his veins as he returned the embrace on reflex. He needed to leave.

“See you around, Club Kid.” She stepped away from him then skipped off down the street. Already fading into a memory, she turned into a silhouette against the dewy morning light.
