Music Monday- A Talent for Trouble

This week we have the lovely Landra Graf in with her latest release, A Talent for Trouble!

  1. Sinnerman- Nina Simone

My hero’s song. Emilio Morales, drug runner and not the best person. He’s a sinner in every sense of the word. Plus, he is on the run through most of the story.

2. Thin line- Honeyhoney

This is for my heroine, Antonia ‘Toni’ Smith. She’s my sober alcoholic attempting to get her life back on the right track and get her ship back. This song is all about a woman taking what she wants and having to walk the thin line to do it.

3. luka- Secret Sisters

For the chase scenes and the action this song did some amazing things to channel all those moments. Plus, it’s got a creep-some vibe.

4. Down by the River- The Dirty River Boys

Another action song for me. Reminding me of the tough world my characters live in. How escaping their lives for something better may not be easy.

5. Better Love- Hozier

Every book needs a love song and this one is Emilio and Toni’s. Time and again Hozier creates music that speaks to me. This song hits all those levels. A little dark undertone and more.

What’s your next project on the horizon? A Gamble Of Sheep the second in the Bad Boys of Space series. The first book in the series, A Talent For Trouble, is available now.  It’s high octane, action adventure with romance, snark, and a heavy dose of sexual tension.

Where can your readers find you? I’m always wandering Facebook or Twitter. My website is another way to check out my books and what I’m up to. If you want the latest news I highly suggest signing up for my newsletter via this link: http://eepurl.com/dH-ugL

A Talent for Trouble (Bad Boys of Space Book 1) by [Graf, Landra]

When notorious drug runner Emilio Morales meets desperate bootlegger Antonia Smith, they discover contraband isn’t the only thing worth breaking the law for…

Drug runner Emilio Morales is one deal away from being the sole runner from Earth to the upper planets—until his partner attempts a double-cross. Now, Emilio’s stuck in a disabled spaceship with an unpredictable, attractive female who’s willing to help him out if he’ll assist her in retrieving her ship from an impound facility.

Antonia ‘Toni’ Smith is sick and tired of being beholden to men. The only way to guarantee freedom is to get back her bootlegging ship to run her own business again. When Emilio kills her ticket out, she’s forced to rely on him for assistance. Emilio, the most wanted and annoying man in the solar system, is a sexy-as-hell means to an end.

But every plan the duo makes falls apart and every day they spend in each other’s company increases the tension between them.

With the death toll rising and their defenses low, can Emilio and Toni get the happy ending they want, without falling for each other in the process?

Weekly Word Count #100

Word Count: 8,065

What story I’m working on: Hit 11k in my Cupid’s Cafe story and I’m pushing through some really, really dark scenes. This romance is going to be a rough ride, but my lord, Liv’s character is just leaping off the page. She’s so vibrant and clear.

What I’m editing/marketing: Just got the first beta reader response on Future King which is enough of a motivator to throw myself into the deep end a little deeper. When this story is done, my lord, it’s going to shine. Also got the first round of edits done on Waking for Winter, so now I’m just waiting on round two! Plus, An Airship Named Desire AND A Tale of Two Airships are on sale for 99 cents this week only!

Line of the week:

The years melted away as they kissed, each clash of their lips like he breathed life into her once more, like her hopes hadn’t shattered on the rocks years ago. Like she was still sixteen and could almost reach that sky full of stars.

What story I’m working on: Guys….I FINISHED Future King and it feels so good!! I even sent it to the first couple beta readers for feedback–I’m hella excited for this story. It’s groundbreaking in so many ways for me. And now that I finished Future King, I’m working on a bitty project, the contemporary romance for the Cupid’s Cafe world! Zane and Liv’s story is promising to be interesting.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Well, now that I finished Future King, I started doing clean up edits on it! Usually I wait to do these, but I wanted to get a head start on some of the adverb and filter word cleanups, and I can always do another sweep through pretty easily. I’ve already started getting feedback in from beta readers too, so I’ll have plenty to occupy me, soon enough!

Line of the week:

This date had started as bland and was speeding right along to abysmal.

Liv sucked in her straw, taking in an extra hefty helping of her black and white milkshake, as if the creamy goodness could block out the absolute drivel coming out of this guy’s mouth. He hadn’t seemed like this much of a twat online, but hey, dating profiles lie, lie, lied.

Weekly Word Count #98

Word Count: 10,069

What story I’m working on: Since my word count from last week was so low, I charged into this week at full speed, hitting 70k. Now that I have nothing on the editing plate and because I’m nearing the end of Future King, I am just throwing all my efforts into this story. It’s either going to be another 5k or 10k (not really sure yet) so I’m anticipating finishing it next week. This story is my heart and soul at the moment, so I’m really hoping to have some luck with it.

What I’m editing/marketing: NOTHING TO EDIT!! Seriously, this rarely happens. Since I pushed so hard with Forged Alliances though, my editing plate is freed up. I’m also waiting for the first edits for Waking for Winter too, so yeah…it’s crazy!

Line of the week:

I’d met criminals with more honor than an entire battalion, I’d tapped into the magic that I’d been told to push down my entire life, and I’d met the sort of man who inspired me to fight those restraints, who helped me achieve more than I ever believed possible.

“I understand now,” I said, my fingertips tracing the glass in front of me as I stared out with her, into the starry sky beyond. “How you could leave Europa and never look back. Why you’d risk everything for this cause.”

Weekly Word Count #96

Word Count: 7,049

What story I’m working on: Slowed down a little with Future King due to some plot machinations that needed working out. I hit 57k this week, and I think before I leave for my trip next week, I’ll try to get to 65. Lofty goals–someone oughta hold me to it!  I got to THE scene I wanted to write (honestly, most of my wordage for the week was a 5k binge session, lol) but I’ve also been trying to thread out the remainder of the book. We’re in the final third of it, definitely past the midpoint and heading into endzone territory. Not going to lie, I’m thrilled with the way this story has panned out so far.

What I’m editing/marketing: I’m deep into edits on Forged Alliances. Even if I don’t finish the edits this week, I’ll finish them by the end of April for sure. In other news, I got a release date for Waking for Winter–4th of July! So you’ll be getting lots of fun Christmas in July parallels 😛

Teaser of the week:

Dante took a sip from his steaming cup and shook his head, a smirk on his lips. “Thought you were an obedient good girl now.” She arched a brow. “Dunno, I think stopping imminent e

Line of the week:

I leaned in, crushing my lips to his.

The response was immediate, incendiary. Merlin gripped the back of my neck, his fingers weaving through my hair as he tugged me towards him. Beyond the metals we worked with, beyond the raw power brewing inside us, the alchemy that roiled inside me when my lips met his was the strongest pull in the system.

Weekly Word Count #90

Word Count: 5,202

What story I’m working on: Not going to lie, the only reason I have high word counts is because I kicked ass on Saturday. I spent Sunday through Wednesday down for the count with the flu. Didn’t even look at my laptop. Hit 27k with Future King, because I got to write a scene I was super excited about! Doing an LGBT lead is new territory for me, and I’m stoked to venture into it! Forged Alliance has been chugging along, slow and steady. I hit 37k, and I’m hoping by the end of Feb to hit 40!

What I’m editing/marketing: Submitted Waking for Winter to my editor the other week, so I’m waiting for a response on that. Here’s to hoping! Reviews of Rising for Autumn are still coming in, which is all of the excite since it’s now available! Actually almost finished polishing Iron Legacy, so once I go through and do a big read through edit, I’m going to redo the query/synopsis and send it out to market again.

Line of the week:

For a moment, all the charisma melted, the flash of vulnerability brushing the air raw. “You have no idea,” his voice came out rough and husky.

I gave him a half-smile. “I just might.” The weight of a crew was different than that of loss, but each exacted their own tolls, and the longer you bore the heavy load on your own, the more those walls rose between you and your closest, until each smile grew tougher, each laugh forced. “You know,” I said, glancing down at the bowl in front of me. “We’re in the perfect position to trade here. Ease some of your burden by telling me what the hell we’re facing, without the bullshit bravado, and you can sate my anxiety—I can fight better if I know what I’m facing, shit odds or no.”
