Weekly Word Count #173

Word Count: 9508

What story I’m currently working on:

Slow but steady on Hypnotizing Beat! I hit 45k on it, and I’m continuing to make my strides forward. With any luck, I’ll finish it by the end of the month or at least by the end of November. However, since things are a bit slow for me lately and it’s still a slog with Hypnotizing Beat, I’m allowing myself to work on Forged Futures once I get my necessary word count done for the Discord’s Desire book. Because I really want to write Lana and Lucas’s story!

What I’m editing/marketing:

I’m currently diving into the final rounds of edits for The Lies We Weave AND even polishing up the query! Right now, I’m less in editing mode and more in buy-buy, sell-sell mode because Bustles and Bells, the steampunk Christmas anthology I’m a part of, is up for pre-order now, as is Forged Alliances which is set to release November 13th!

Teaser of the week:

“They shot one of ours.” The lines deepened around his grey eyes. “I_d waste the whole army for spilling a drop of my crew_s blood.”(1)

Line of the week:

Even with the nerves running up and down his arms and legs like flame, Trevor allowed himself to grin and laugh with his bandmates. It was hard not to with the ridiculous way Ren piped, headbanging up and down to his own music. Or how Kieran fondled that mic like he owed it a favor. Even Jett dove into the fray, sneaking his own brand of misheard lyrics into their song, pickle instead of fickle, or heartbroken as Hoboken.

What story I’m currently working on:

Slow and steady! I’ve been pushing forward with Hypnotizing Beat, but I also got sidetracked the past couple of days with edits, so that put heavy writing days on the backburner. However, I did hit my goal of 30k in Hypnotizing Beat. I will finish this book by the end of the year, I swears it. I’m hoping to at least hit 60k with this book in October, if not complete it. If I don’t complete it next month, then I’m going to be finishing it in November to kickstart NaNoWriMo.

What I’m editing/marketing:

So, the reason I slacked harder on writing Hypnotizing Beat was because I started burning through edits on Forged Contracts…to the point that I finished them last night and sent in the submission. Fingers crossed for some good news, guys! Now that I have that edit out of the way, I can focus most of my editing mojo on The Lies We Weave, which I’m determined to finish this year. I’m super excited for next week, since the pre-order for Forged Alliances goes live!!! I absolutely can’t wait to relaunch this series!

Teaser of the week:

Wistful notes spoke of loneliness, as solitary as the final birdsong of autumn or the trill of summer_s last cicada before the wintry freeze.

Danica slipped beside him, craning forward to peer into the water. “So, what’s your guess, guitar boy? Think it’s in the middle of this muck? I’m happy to go splashing in the kiddie pool after the dive through Shark Central Station.”

Trevor lifted a brow. “I’ve been relegated to guitar boy now?” He couldn’t help the grin that rose to his lips. He’d love to chalk it up to her leannan sidhe charm, but he’d met plenty. Danica had an effortless ability to make him laugh, her brand of sharp wit and weird something he doubted he’d ever tire of.

“Yep,” she responded. “Better pull out the stops to wow me if you want a bump up on the nickname list.” Danica gripped the golden stones framing the pond as if she prepared to launch into the water.

Weekly Word Count #170

Word Count: 5006

What story I’m currently working on:

Hit 25k with Hypnotizing Beat, so by next week I’ll be at 30k and right on track! It’s still a slower pace than the Tribal Spirits books which seem to just fly out of me, but I’m having a lot of fun playing in this sandbox again. Plus, SHARKS. (You’ll know when you read it!) I’m going to either try to power out Hypnotizing Beat in October, or finish it in the beginning of November and then squeeze a novella out. Or write the next book in the Tribal Spirits series, Forged Futures. It’s a dice roll at this point.

What I’m editing/marketing:

Well, I got all of my beta reader feedback in on Forged Contracts, and it’s not nearly the endeavor I thought it was going to be, so I’m plowing through content edits and line edits. My hope is to have it turned into my publisher by the end of September or early October! And I’ve gotten some solid feedback from one of my beta readers for The Lies We Weave, so I’m going to be diving into more content edits. Thankfully no more full-blown rewrites though. Of Tinkers and Technomancers also recently got signed with Totally Bound Publishing, so I’m thrilled to dive into that new series as well.

However, she wasn’t afraid.

Danger didn’t terrify her, not like confinement.

Danica would fight her way through a shark tank, bloody her hands in any manner to keep from getting locked away, whether it was a figurative chain or a real one. Trevor’s hand settled on her shoulder again. She glanced back to him at last. She’d expected nerves from the man, but all she found was a steady gaze back.

Trevor arched a brow and glanced to her heels. “I’m pretty sure the sharks are going to eat you first if you’re swimming with those on.”

Danica snorted. “Nice try, he-who-wears-stompers. I’ll sprinkle shark bait on you and kick you in first. Give myself a swimming head start.”

What story I’m currently working on:

I’m forging forward with Hypnotizing Beat, and I think I need to continue on and complete it, not get sidetracked by writing my beautiful shifters. I’m starting to figure out my next steps here, and I think the book is going to be super fun. While I’m doing a faster release schedule with my shifty shiftersons (I’m going to try to have books 4 and 5 written by next year), I think I’m going to do one a year for the Discord’s Desire crew. (Though, who knows. If I end up feeling this series, I’ll probably move faster)

What I’m editing/marketing:

Crazily enough, I’ve got beta responses on Forged Contracts already, and so I’ve begun my edits. I also am continuing to slog away at The Lies We Weave, and I’m hoping that my beta readers give me solid feedback, but also that I don’t have to rewrite the entire thing again, lol. From the looks of it, next year is going to be abundant with releases, to the point of ridiculousness, methinks. Regardless, I’m excited, and I have some more news on the horizon to share soon.

Teaser of the week:

He didn_t know what he searched for out there in all the blue. Maybe the faintest glimmer of hope, like the sun gliding off the rippling surface of the lake.(3)

Line of the week:

She let go of his hand the moment they entered the bathroom, a fluorescent overhead blinking on.

He shut the door behind him with an audible click.

The moment he turned around, Danica’s mouth was on his. She tasted honey sweet with the sharp sting of coffee, and he slipped his palms around her chin, her cheeks to draw her closer. He’d been imagining the way those pert lips would feel from the moment they’d met, but the reality was far, far, better, a silken glide that he found himself addicted to. He kissed her again and again, backing away to tease, baiting her to lunge in for more.

Weekly Word Count #168

Word Count: 1232

What story I’m currently working on:

Slowly getting back into the swing of things, but for good reason. Even still, I got some wordage in on Hypnotizing Beat, and I’m thinking I may try to ride this book out to its conclusion rather than sidestepping back to shifter land. As much as I love my shifters, the rockstar fae boys need some love too. Besides, the more I get back into the swing of things with Discord’s Desire, the more I remember the characters and feel of the book.

What I’m editing/marketing:

I leapt way far ahead with The Lies We Weave, finishing my rewrite, as well as the added scenes I needed to write in. I thought it would take forever, but it just took a couple super intense days of work. And I’m not going to lie, I felt iffy about this book before, but now I’m smitten. The dialogue leaps off the page, the characters are interesting, and the story resonates. Here’s to hoping. And as for new releases, you can look forward to Bustles and Bells later in the year, and Forged Alliances will actually go up for pre-order at the end of November!

Teaser of the week:

_Each step forward offered a better view of the crystal walls ahead, the castle appearing like something out of a fairytale._

Line of the week:

The moment she stepped into Kink and Candy, the AC slapped her in the face and she liked it. At once, the sweat started drying like paste across her skin, a fierce reminder to future Danica that a shower was essential tonight. Melrose stalked through the maze of stacked chairs and tables across the floor, heading towards the stage. The woman moved with preternatural grace, but it was anyone’s guess as to why a water nymph would take up residence in the desert. Regardless, Melrose ran a tight ship, and Danica trusted her in the business capacity—which is where she placed everyone.

All except one person.

Lenora hopped off the stage she’d been perched upon and raced over to her, a hurricane in heels.

Weekly Word Count #167

Word Count: 130

What story I’m currently working on:

Since I didn’t update the last one, consider this the shortest week ever! The word count should’ve been zero since I spent a ton of time catching up on beta reads, working on content editing jobs, and the rewrite for The Lies We Weave (Musketeer Pirates), BUT I may have scribbled down the opening lines for Forged Futures. Those shifters keep “hounding” me. Still, I’m determined to put down 10k into Hypnotizing Beat by the end of September.

What I’m editing/marketing:

I’m moving forward with The Lies We Weave. It’s got a fancy new name, is getting a total quality rewrite, and then I’ll be weaving in like 8 new scenes. Also, rewriting is a bitch and takes forever. WAY longer than fresh-writing a book. The next thing out on the horizon will be Bustles and Bells sometime later this year, probably closer to Christmas. I know our stories are due October 1st…mine may already be turned in.

Line of the week:

The house never felt as empty as it did in mid-winter.

Lana thought the loneliness would’ve gripped her by the throat those early summer nights after Kyle died, but those didn’t compare to the brittle ache that had descended with the new year.
